I'm sorry if someone's already brought this up recently, but what really is this warhorn?

Posted Image

I've heard a lot of speculation on it being something similar to Heavy Metal's speakers.
However I've not seen any official statement on them from PGI.

What are this?

The more imminent question is why for gods sake does a Clan Warrior need a "Warhorn"?

The only reason i can imagine for a warhorn - means that the maps are surrounded by grandstands and people watching the Solaris IV circus playing the Clan Invasion

What are this?

It was explained in a string of tweets made by Russ Bullock on Feb. 28, 2014.
  • "A few asking after War horns before they make a clan package purchase. I think you can appreciate how we hate talking until dead certain..." (source)
  • "But I can at least say this for those wanting that info. They will function as a cockpit item in the Mounted position. Each one will have..." (source)
  • "a unique sound and you will be able to move them around like all mounted cockpit items. They will trigger there sound upon getting a kill..." (source)
  • "Just like Heavy Metal. That is all we have for now on that subject. Hope it helps and we will get it on the site asap right @Matt_Neutron" (source)
Essentially, warhorns are cockpit items that makes a sound when a player scores a kill, similar to the Heavy Metal's speaker system.

Likely it will be what it says, when you kill someone it will play a "boom" sound. Either that or it lets your mech move at 1226 kph.

Edit, ninja'd with sources!

Greetings all,

The Warhorns are no where what most thought, and the are inside the Clan Mech's.

From the VLog #4 there is an image of 2 speaker box's hanging off the left/right cockpit window frames. Which kind of sucks as most of us were thinking of something in the line of 'English hunting horns' or 'world of the worlds' blare. Anything that actually blasts there presence. Not the same old type of 'kill sound' the highlander has.

This info is kind of disappointing, I was so looking forward to the 'eerie' or 'scary' blasts that should announce 'A Clan Warrior has entered the Battlefield'.

Update:
After listening to the played sound in the vlog, again, it actually sounds similar to a quite 'war of the worlds' alien horn blast. Or a really big, ships air horn. That's better, but it needs to be "louder".

They have an audio sample of the warhorn in the lastest vlog#4. It sounds like a large horn trumpeting....or somebody with a really bad case of IBS.

Wait, so I blast my own face with a sound/s?

What clanner wants that?

Trial of Position for the horns to be positioned on the outside of the Mech.

What speculation? That came straight from twitter. That's about as official as you can get.

Oh... you're right.

I would rather have a hanging Horn, like a Bison freaking horn.

Having sound blast me from ancient old speakers... is so non MechWarrior, non Clan so...

You guys are OBVIOUSLY NOT smoking weed or doing anything righteous when you have your creative sessions.

Is this Canadian beer creativity? Do beer drinkers like 1970s Fisher speakers blaring in their face?

My wife swears I have my own sonic boom warhorn. With a nasty face, she makes me leave the room whenever it goes off.

No, actually, they're pretty much exactly what I expected.
