Am i just an odd duck and not get it? I know people swoon over the 3L for the ECM, and the 4x gets it's love from the JJ's and big cannon.. but the 2x is one people say, level and sell, and now with the huggin, i wonder if anyone would even buy it outside of people that don't have MC.

for me though, it is one of my favorite laser mechs around. I pop in an XL-260 that i got from a JMD-6 purchase. (something i only played once the day i got.. one day i will get around to playing around with um, perhaps...)

Then i load up 2 MPL's, 2 ML's and a SRM6..and AMS and let the fun begin! (You can do 4 MPL's +Srm6, with out AMS and slightly stripped armor, or full armor and SRM4, ))

anyways.. this mech has been an absolute blast, and by far my best raven. I have more 400+ damage games with this mech, than both the others combined with the amount of time spent being equal. Many assists, and helping others rip apart mechs. It makes for a great, blast and dash mech.. Can't wait till i get this thing maxed out on XP and get that extra module in for helping spot. I have been thinking adding the 360 retention, for my Crash and dash play.

So i have to wonder, is there some other mech that can run this set up better? Or should i just be committed to the Asylums and be done with it?

JR7-K is the RVN-2X but with JJ, basically.

And it's the worst Jenner.

(Full disclosure: I enjoyed the RVN-2X quite a bit running XL275, 4ML, SRM6, but it's stripped in my hangar now)

I used it as a mini-Raven 3L as when I used RVN-3L with 2 ER LL that arm/side kept getting focused right off and I decided to spread my lasers. Works wonders, and people don't target you as much due to having 2X on your head. I think 4X has more hate, though I like AC20 Raven, and just a few games ago a guy in a Raven AC20 was sitting on an Atlas DDC, was funny and actually won the match with a solid push. ^_^

I think Terciel hit it on the head. Anything the -2X can do, the Jenner -D or -K can do, only with jump jets and a higher engine cap.

It's part of why I'd like to see armor limits based on stock variants. All of a sudden your Raven has almost twice the armor as the Jenners, and gives it a reason to be.

ahhh,, i understand now... Ok then, another Q...

both have the same armor? Are the hitboxes different? I swear the raven looks thinner and a bit harder to hit.. the jenner has that big ol nose thingy..

(though as for the build i use, no way could you fit JJ's or bigger engine) but I guess the jenner would just be more flexible? like in the case, of using 4 ML's and an SRM 6 with a bigger engine kinda thing?

Hitboxes are different.
Jenners CT is easier to hit - the Raven's leg hitboxes are actually bigger than the model

They have the same max armor because of how the TT game balanced mech creation - IE all 35 toners have the same potential armor.

Edit: clarified hitboxes

JR7-D

Here's a Jenner D with a 300XL. 4 jump jets, near max armor, and 4MLs and an SRM6. It may run a little hot, but it's speed and jumping will make it a nasty striker.

As for hit boxes, I don't think either mech gains a real advantage. Sure, the Jenner has that head sticking out front, but the Raven has that big ol' beak, and I think it's legs are easier to hit.

Edit: ninja'd ^_^

2X isn't meta compliant. Simply all there is to it.

With the armor concept that's been floating around suggestion threads, the 2X would be superior to the Raven 3-L in armor, a middle ground on par with the Huginn for armor limits (with the Ferro modification tacked in as well) with more energy weapons than the Raven 4X (though the 4X would be superior armor, jumpjets, etc. going for it).
But as it is... it hasn't got anything going for it that other mechs can't do better.

Koniving nailed it there I think.

But, when all is said and done, the real truth is, if you have fun with a mech, and you have a build you like and do well with, there's no reason what-so-ever to do anything but play it.

I made a PPC laser SRM mini-brawler out of this mech, and did ok in it. I was always in the fight, but could never stop moving, otherwise, *splat*. I like it, but I can see most people not wanting to bother with learning the personality of this mech and just moving on to something more unique or more powerful with a better defined role.

For Raven fans only.

There's nothing wrong with you.

Most people don't like the 2x because it doesn't go as fast as the 3L and doesn't have ECM. Simply put. Their playstyle doesn't work with it. That's why they blame the mech. I'm currently writing a summary guide for each mech and how to pilot them. This is what I have on the 2X so far, and my opinion is still the same:

RVN-2X: The first of the mishandled brothers(or sisters), very underrated because it's top speed is 140Kph which is somewhat low for a light, However, it is an excellent escort mech, one build used on it with great success(not by me) is max XL engine, 4MLs, 1SRM6(with 3 tons ammo) ,AMS(with 2 tons ammo) it is a great escort mech, and in the midst of the fray will be overlooked by the bigger mechs.

Basically stick to protecting your team, and to smacking their targets. Play peekaboo with the enemy mechs by hiding behind your mechs. It's a great escort mech, and a great satellite.

They would be niche.... if they were stuck with Flamers.

Swap the flamers out for ML (or in Koniving's case 2smalls 1Medpulse) and it has more punch potential than the Jenners do right now. (one can carry 8! Lasers)

Raven's have easier to hit legs and side torsos, while Jenner has an easier cockpit to hit (plus if you sit right on an airstrike or get lrms directly to the face then cockpit damage would be heavy), and Firestarters have easily hit off arms. Try out the FS9-S(C), which is a neat light mech. True that as Shar has said you can place more lasers than the Jenner-F, but it will run really hot, therefore most people would place either mixes of lasers or less lasers than possibly fit.

Only if they are all Medium Lasers.

8 Small run pretty darn cool (comparatively speaking) - get no ghost heat - recharge faster - and hit almost as hard.

Or 8 SPL - even faster beam duration.

Or a decent mix - 4ML 4SL - best of both worlds. ^_^

NOTE: I do not have that one yet - so that is all theory - but after having run the Jenner with 6E.... ^_^

Hehe, JC, right after hanging out here on the forums and posting in this and a couple other threads, I log in for my first match of the day, and lo and behold who should be piloting the T-Bolt that ends up killing my Cicada right at the very end?

Well played Daxion...well played. ^_^

i was thinking about 8 SML, or SPL... reminds me of the old Mech 3 Shadow hawk or was it shadow cat?.. legging things with 16 SML! talk about a over powered deadly mech... It was fun to play every now and again,, but it basically cut through legs like butter.. but hey, when that mission came and you really wanted to make sure you salvaged an annihilator.. that was your mech!

I run mine with 4 MLs in the arms, and 4 SPLs in the torsos. Works like a charm. I also can alpha twice and probably not over-heat. It gets dicey. However, putting the MLs on chain fire, and the SPLs on burst fire makes for a nasty 1, 2 punch.

Want hot? I run one with 6 MPL. Hot, but with timing, the alpha is impressive. You do have to engine down, is a core group support mech, not a solo scout/runner.

Its not viable until elite level, but it does work. Alpha mech, not sustained fighter.

Heh, no hard feelings, I'd have done the same, and I already had done the same to a couple of your dropmates earlier in the match. ^_^

Sure thing, after the tournament ends I'd love to do some group drops.
