Never seen this happen before, at least I don't think. Usually when engine gets destroyed, the CT (or L/R T in case of XL) structure is missing.
Is this right? Some kind of critical hit on the engine?
PS Coordinates included, I went back to check if I was in bounds at the time.

The LBX critted and the paper doll didn't update fast enough to show the CT going bye bye.

3 engine crits kills your engine without destroying your ct internal structure which is what the paper doll represents.

From the look of your pics there you were critted through the back. The crit can take place without all of the internal being destroyed. Just means the guy that shot you in the back got lucky, while you were just unlucky.

It's probably just a graphical glitch. Engines can't be destroyed by crits unless they stealth added it last night.

I'm afraid not, while engines can be crit, those crits do nothing aside from 15% of the crit damage is transfered to the internal structure.
3 crits doesn't kill.

Can you site where that is referenced by a Dev?
They have made a statement...but that was ages ago.
I'm not sure I'll be able to find it. You could try contacting support for an answer. I think it was during the R&R phase, where engines could indeed be destroyed, even if you survived the match because it took the 10 crit damage.
So, a hefty repair bill, even though you survived the match.

It's been awhile but I'm not aware of any updates on the subject.

These are some good reads on crit mechanics, fairly certain they're still relevant.
