Well, I would say Hunchback, or Atlas. The Hunchback will give you a taste of stuff, and if you take the Atlas, you can make some mistakes without getting owned.

Keep in mind that you will also get to pick a mech to start the game with - so if you didn't get a Founders Elite / Legendary you can still start with a cat, atlas, hunchie, or jenner (they won't have the C-bill boost, though).

I also think, from what I have seen, that "in-game" prices for mechs will be higher for larger ones... but so will repair costs. So you can get the Atlas right out of the gate, but you will earn (net) money slower because your repair bills will be higher on average than someone in a smaller mech (even if you both gross the same amount of C-bills for a round). That seems to be the balance in offering each class of mechs as a starter... and I am hoping that if you do choose to go with a big Atlas to start, and realize you don't like it, the C-bills from selling it might be enough to cover a lesser mech. That is a *hope* though, not a guarantee.

Jenner for Energy Weapons, Scouting, and C-Bills
Hunchie for Projectile Weapons, Moderate Armor, and closing range at the speed of a Geo
Catapult for Missiles and being a giant target in plain view.
Atlas for being indecisive and a Steiner.

------
Jenner:
4x Flamers
1X Narc launcher
3 tons split between heatsinks/armor/ or other modifications
------

Run up, Narc target, Overheat target.

Personally piloting an atlas annoys the hell out of me it’s just too slow for my style of play.

The Catapult has me intrigued though, in older Mech Warrior games the cockpit was larger than most other Mech’s making it suicide once someone got in range of you, but I love the way they have redesigned it, it’s more stream line and less of a robotic target with legs.

Took the plunge and got a Hunchback.

Thanks for all the input!

1) The expectation is everyone gets a free mech to start. You could always pick a Catapult. However, it won't be a founder catapult.

2) Your Veteran package includes in game currency which can probably be spent on more mechs. MOAR MECHS.

While they all rock, smart money says the solo pick should be an Atlas. Who knows what other mech will be available that will compare with a 100 ton assault mech? Whatever it is, it will surely be more expensive than the comparable mechs to the other three.

Go big.

To get the best punch without becoming everyone's massed fire target, the Hunchback is the way to go.

However, if you can sell your mechs, maybe get the Atlas, play around a bit to see if you like it, and if not, sell it for the cash to buy something you might like better.

Well, my reasoning is related with some of the Dev videos that have come out. Mainly, there are limited roles to fill on a team. Theoretically you won't have a full team of Atlas mechs.

They stated in the "Medium Mech" video that this was one of the more frequent Mechs on the battlefield, being a bread-and-butter close range brawler with a bit of customization.

They more or less stated that medium will be the most prevalent. I want the Mech I'm using the most to have the money bonus.

The Hunchback is a really good choice I think. As it was announced that the Founders 'mechs are going to be base variants (i.e. the first version of the 'mech made) then you'd be getting the HBK-4G, with the 2 medium lasers, small laser, and auto-cannon 20.

Plenty you can do with that. Personally I am going to look into swapping out the AC/20 for a Gauss Rifle and upping the armor a little bit.

I picked the Cat to start with my elite package. I like the fire support role, as well as the close in combat....so now I am leaning towards the Legendary package and grab them all!
