... I don't know what to say to this. I don't like the language, but seriously! If the kid cannot handle the language he needs to get off. There is an age limit for a reason, and the kid needs to suck it up or get off because this game is largely populated by 20-40 year olds who don't give 2 hoots about offending some wimpy kid. Back in the old days there was this game called Doom (maybe you've heard of it) and every teen in the world played this.

It had swearing (one gun was literally dubbed the Big F***ing Gun), Satanic imagery, etc etc it was completely controversial. If kids in that day could handle Doom kids now days should be able to handle this. Seriously there are worse games out there with more language than this that these kids play (like CoD, GTA, Wolfenstein the New Order, Doom 3, Half Life). If they can handle those games they can handle this.

I have never read anything about an age limit for MWO, I cannot see anything about age restriction in the terms of use of the code of conduct

it was called the BFG in game, what the initials stood for was left to the players imagination, it was only revealed that the designer had intended the name to contain a swear word in the manual of doom 2, also Doom while not age restricted clearly was not aimed at young children, at that time the world wide web (the internet as we know it) was still a new invention, the vast majority of people did not have access to the internet, to buy a game you had to go into a shop and (at least in my area) regardless of age restriction local shopkeepers would not sell a game like that to a young child (as my younger brother found out several times).

Just to make it clear... those rules are no joke even if you consider them as such. In MWO they are actually enforeced. People get their accounts banned for refusing to use acceptable language.

Not once. I rage in every other match, which means thousands by now.

Then you are very, very lucky, as no one has reported you yet. I see players losing their account(s) for language nearly daily now.

All multiplayer games I know have a chat filtering system. MWO is an exception.

I am not sure the game could afford to lose that many Players

There are differing opinions on this every time it comes up. If you want to spew crap out of your mouth the entire time you play the game then it should not be my problem or my kids problem. The simple solution to this is to have the ability to turn off this behavior at will prior to the spewing of crap with the option to turn off chat. I've asked for it, many have asked for it, and only the crap spewing people who play cry about the idea of PGI giving us the ability to silence their spew flowing in chat.

I've seen all the arguments about giving those of us who tire of dealing with the spewing pool of crap that flows from some of you the ability to turn you off and none of them make any sense to those of us dealing with you the spewing minority. That being said please run on and on with your freedom of speech, censorship, and "You can't issue orders" counter arguments to this, but I got news for you that I already know that this option is coming and one day you will be silenced from our ears. The joke is on you as you try to validate your seriously flawed points of view about how giving those of us the ability to shut you up will negatively affect the game or your freedom of speech.

Good day!

Here's an interesting article on why word filters in games usually don't work:

Take away their ability to be infantile in one way, and they will find another way to express their "maturity" by displaying a complete and utter lack of it.

Here's what you do (in VB6 terms)

If label1.caption = "-insert swear, derogatory term, insult, religious insult, etc here-" then
label1.caption=******
End if

Ban a term - they will find another term to use.

Eventually you will run out of words to use at all.

Consider this - the true biggot does not consider himself a bigot - because from his perspective it is justified.

Ban his ability to express himself that way and he will find another way to do so.

Ban that....

Ban that.....

How many "bad words" does the American English language have?
How many "other" words do we have that have the same meaning (with the way people use them)

IE: Damn and Darn.

Whats the difference between the two?
With the way people use them - there is none.
Edit: same meaning - same "vain" usage.
/endedit

Ban Darn and they will find another way to say it - the whole "long necked giraffe in your fluffy white bunny" bit from the article.

You cannot ban every word.

Which makes coordinating teamwork in a team based game.... difficult at best

I see a fair amount of it - but I very well may be the exception to the rule for that, if the forums are anything to go by.

Even if I am - that does not change the fact that the team that cooperates more tends to win more.

You really want to try and play without any way to coordinate?

Command wheel sounds like it would be a solution - but it doesn't take long in the games that have them to realize they are just as abusable as chat is.

So.....

Being able to remove the ability to communicate with your team mates.....

Doesn't hurt your ability to coordinate with them....

Doesn't hurt your ability to warn them of flanks.....

Does not hurt anything.

GOTCHA.

Nice to know we do not need the chat for anything.

Nice to know we have absolutely no need to communicate with our teammates.

Did you ever read that article?

Doesn't matter what you can or cannot turn off someone will find a way to provide a living example of GIFT.

You can either stand up and use the system at hand to deal with them (in this case report them)
Or you can live with it.

Because frankly the only way to actually police something like that is with people.

Its quite clear if you want to turn off chat you don't give a crap about Team chatting anyways.

As much as I like you Marack, allow me to laugh at you for this.

Show me where I have ONCE said that.
Quote me - show me where anything I have said supports that.

Try dropping with me sometime - I am quite vocal in chat.
Don't believe me?
Ask Koniving, or Bulletsponge0, or Luxebo.

However!
There is not an automatic system in the world that can prevent jackassery.
