Both viewpoints are pointless and wrong. If you want to pay upfront and take a chance on something you haven't played yet, that is up to you, and likewise if you don't.
I'll probably buy some sort of package upfront over the next week or so, I'm thinking about it, but I don't care if someone pays more or not at all, it is up to them. Just by being on these forums and showing interest in the game your supporting the game and the company, and make no mistake, the amount of "free" players will far outweigh those who pay, and it will be those players who decide the longevity of this game not those paying. Because they are the ones who will be making the micro transactions that keep this game afloat, and provide the large player base to keep it going.
All discussions from one polar view or another are equally ignorant.
I played WoT (World of Tanks) for 12 months during Beta, and another 12 months as a paying customer. I mention this game because it is of a very similar format and had similar offers and funding structure, and I already know how this one will work more or less based on that experience. Even after 12 months of Beta I paid for extra tanks, premium tanks, premium account status, and extras such as gold ammo. I spent more on that game than on any other previous MMO fixed monthly charge, literally hundreds of £'s over the course of 12 months, more than any other game I have ever played (possible exception is live poker).
I have computer gamed for over 20 years, and been a fan of Battletech for most of them. I think it was 88 or 89 when I got my first Mechwarrior game, and have had many since. Mercenaries is still my favourite.
Whether I decide to get a forum tag saying I paid up front or not has zero bearing on whether I would like to support this game or not.

My point of view is: Ilike what im seeing and i want to see a game come out that brings me back to those countless hours i spent playing battletech tabletop. So yeah even if this game fails atleast i did something to support the production of it.
And yeah i would probably have spent that amount on Wot or some other game within the next week anyway.
So the fact is the people who want to play this game but dont want to pay for it should be happy i did for them, i am funding your gaming experience ******

Besides, free to play MMO's are breeding grounds for the stupid and the entitled. Ignore the trolls and move on.

The hilarious part is that a few months ago, thems woulda been fightin werds. People complain about anything there is to complain about, and that's ok. Opinions are like medium lasers: everyone's got one.
I hope we get someone in here to start yellin at people, I haven't seen a good flame war in a while.

Paying the $120 won't mean you don't suffer from ther F2P model. They still want to make more money out of you and they already have your $120. That is how these games work, they push boxes or weekly special offers.
Congratulations you have been elected to get 50% off all ammo for today only, that kind of stuff.
It's coming to you and everyone else.
lol 380+ posts out of a guy who doesnt like the game xD get a life sir
