Correct me if im wrong here, but is the Catapult the only mech released thus far who has jump jets?

Jenner's tend to have jump jets, so I assume they would as well.

If customization exists, couldn't you put jump jets on any mech if spacing allows it?

Dev's have stated that this is a no go. If that variant didn't come w/ JJ, it can't have JJ.

JJ vs speed vs armor , choices choices

Catapults often use JJ to find a nice high spot to shoot LRMs from, can often also stop mechs running at their face too

Acutally an interesting questions would be how do LRMs do vs Jump Jets. Becuase many a game you could avoid some/all of LRM fire by jumping just before they would hit

I wonder how modular they plan to do jump-jets. If its a matter of you need X JJ to make a mech fly, with additional JJ to make it faster or fly higher etc, can u add sets or single counts of JJ? Or is it more a variant-X has JJ variant-F does not.

oh ya jenner. never liked the jenner, looks like the lower half of a heavy that is clearly over compensating.
and Cataphract, good to see, good to know.
I was messing around in mw4 and DFA'd a Hellhound, and it got me thinking.
so assuming that they include the variants of the Cataphract and the Trebuchet that have JJ, Catapults and Jenners wont be the only ones going all Mario on people heads.

The mechs that traditionally have JJ capability will have a specific variant that has JJs; according to the Dev posts I've read. Apparently, they will define that variant and not be removable.

It would be nice if more than just the Jenner had jets. I don't see why a Raven or Commando can't also use them. They're also Light Mechs. As it stands now the Jenner will probably the only Light Mech of value, and it will be due to the fact that it's the only one that can use jets. While I believe that jets should be hit or miss on heavier classes, I think that with Light Mechs it is to be expected and should be an option for all of them. Why won't I be able to use jets on a Raven or Commando? They're also Light Mechs and I don't see how a Light Mech is going to have any value without them. They don't get more firepower. They don't get more armor. They don't get more speed. Do they get more electronic equipment???

Actually a dev has said that a variant with Jets can have them removed or placed back on as you see fit. It is a choice on those variants. It is not a choice however for non JJ variants because they can't use them at all. Basically if the variant has no jets by default, then the answer is no. If it does have jets by default, then you can either use them or yank them out and use that space on something else.

I think you're underselling the other light mechs...

The Commando will be the best scout mech for urban maps as it is well suited to fire a barrage of 10 missiles at point blank range and then run away during its reload. The Raven is unmatched in terms of gathering information about enemy positions. The other scouts probably can't equip all those gadgets or there would be no point for the Raven. Look again at the Jenner and notice that it has issues with heat build up. The Jenner is built to shoot once then run away and hide.... that's not terribly fun imho. When you factor jump jets into the equation you're also talking about more heat.

Yes.

The Raven is a fantastic electronics platform. The Jenner has jump jets and pretty solid weapons loadout for an IS Light, but not much else to speak of, and "well armed for a Light" is not the same thing as "well armed". If you want to kill things, you don't generally pick Light mechs (except Adders). In terms of actual scouting, where you go find enemies for your team without getting blowed up for it, the Raven is a champ.

You're also overrating the importance of Jump Jets. Sure, they're fun and they feel cool, but I'd usually rather spend the extra tonnage on armor and heat sinks, or maybe a better engine.

no... it all depends on the variant. For example... (going off of Table top) Both the Jenner Variants we have seen so far have jump jets. I believe most of the Catapult variants do as well but one for sure that dont is the Catapult CPLT-K2. I believe there will also be a variant of the Capaphract down the line that also has Jump Jets. If the variant of mech is built with Jump Jets in mind, it can use or not use them. If the variant has no Jump Jets from the start, Id say... no, it can not then equip them.
