I'm a total noob when it comes to Mechwarior. I've never used a joystick before either. I'm diving into this game head first and I really want to use a joystick and was wondering if anyone on here uses the x52 pro for mechwarrior4 or MWLL? Any information would be helpful. If you use a different stick that you think is better please let me know.
Thanks in advance for any advice at all.

I've used the standard X52 AND the X65F for MW games. They both work very well, though it can take a while to get used to not accidently tripping the stick twist axis.If you're a novice to using HOTAS sticks it can take you a while to find a use for all the buttons.

I don't expect it to be easy, but i'm a gamer. If i'm not in class or working, i'm playing games. I plan for this to be my "game of choice" for the foreseeable future so I want to make sure I get a great stick that helps me dive deeper into the game but wont hurt me during competitive play.

I used a joystick in MW1 and 2 ,but in MW3 and onward when they introduced mouse controls I found them to be more precise and intuitive. If you have a joystick that you like already I would definitely recommend you try it out as it does give a more immersible experience but don't buy a new stick until you've tried it out with mouse and kb. For me, I don't have the fine motor skills needed to use the joystick well. It may be different for you

Ive got a X52 Pro and love it. The only "issue" is that older games like MW4 dont recognize that many buttons. However, it comes with software so you can program joystick buttons to be read as keyboard keys, problem solved.

I've been looking a lot into joysticks for MWO too. Right now I have a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro which is a great stick for a pretty low price. ($27 on Amazon) I was looking at the X52 as well, and I've been told that hard core MW fans swear by the X45. For a more affordable stick I was looking at the Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X Flight Stick.
Just a few options that I was looking at. You could also wait for more info on the Artemis stick. I might do that.

I had a bad unit of the X52 pro, but they replaced it without issue and the current one works just fine, still getting used to it and I think I be playing with keyboard+mouse.

I have the regular X52 system. Ive had it for almost a decade, actually I even have an older saitek, and it still works. Saitek joysticks are built to last. Over the years, things do go wrong, actually, you probably have better compatability with a new one than an old one, sometimes my malfunctions due to the fact that it was built years ago, windows 7 doesnt like that old programming, sometimes if I have to reconnect it due to malfunctions, it causes a blue screen, which I think is because of the root enumerator or something involving the USB system. Actually, yesterday was the first time ive cleaned it, the spring was a bit sticky, a bug crawled in there and died, then when i went to turn in IL-2, it blew up and guts went everywhere, lol. Other than bugs crawling into the mechanics and such, its a great system, you should never have to buy another joystick again. It works great with MW4. It is probably the best thing for MW, other than a room full of screens, a moving/vibrating chair, and a cockpit setup that looks just like the real thing, lol.

I just dusted off my old X52 in anticipation for MWO. There are Windows 7 drivers out there and thus far I have had no issues with the stick and throttle. I fired up Mechwarrior 4 Mercenaries and have started building a personal profile. I am not sure what MWO will recognize by default but I will say that MW4 Mercenaries does an absolutely horrid job recognizing the X52. Chances are you will have to use the profiler and create a custom profile for MWO unless it detects it fully. The profiler does seem to do a good job. Basically, you map the buttons to the equivalent keystrokes. So far, I haven't had any issues with performance there. I am hoping that MWO will detect the 18.5 million buttons on the Saitek X52. I love the original X52. I have no doubt the profiler will work for MWO, but I am hoping I will not have to load a custom profile just to use it properly with the game.
