I took SRMs a few times...best result was 820 damage in a brawling victor with 16SRM+A tubes, 300 missiles. Ran dry, while I still had a few Ultra rounds left. Of course it was a loss.

Played around two dozen matches....I believe it was 2 wins. It was horrible last night. 1/4 of the matches, I carried quite a bit, 1/4 of the time...I did absolutely horribly. The other half was brawling mechs on Alpine, and just mediocre play and teams.

2 wins...matchmaker lotteries.

Whenever the lottery starts going the wrong way I quit. Sometimes for days at a time.

I like winning. I want to win all the time. I also don't mind losing. If losing is my fault--i.e. a result of my own actions and not beyond my own control.

When the matchmaker fecks you over repeatedly and there is NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT (unless you take PPCs + ACs), that kind of **** drives people away from a game permanently.

... Star Citizen released Arena Commander. Yay. And then there's always Dark Souls 2.

Hey PGI--I bet you wish you had that money from me. Oh, what's that? You don't? Haaa haaa!

I PUG'd a bunch of matches last night, then played a bunch more with 1 teammate, using my SRM builds to try out the new patch. Same as usual, couple steamrolls either way but overall he battles were close win or lose. Saw some people using some different builds which was nice. Seemed like a lot more LRMs for some matches but I think that's just my brain freaking out while someone rains on me. At least half of our matches were wins.

SRM hitreg seemed no different than usual. Played mostly my 2 ASRM4 Quickdraw 4G, 4 SRM6 Awesome 8R, and 3 ASRM4 Orion M and noticed some things:

If I'm too close to an enemy (under 25m or so I would guess) and fire all banks of missiles at once, a decent number of them seem to go right through or just disappear, and I don't do much damage at all. From a bit further out, the hits seem to register much better and you see some real damage being done. The trick is hitting from further out because you have to lead a lot more than you'd think on a moving target, and chain firing seems to yield better results (unfortunately, you also have to be facing the target for a lot longer this way). I didn't really notice the damage per missile increase they put in but.. hard to judge that anyways. Slightly tighter spread was nice and I did notice it especially on my 6's.

Still did pretty well all night though. I realize the fixes in place for SRMs are just bandaids at the moment so I'm looking forward to the underlying issues solved.

I think the pulse buff is awesome. I ran five matches straight with a 4mpl 2sl FS9-K and racked up a total of 17 kills. IDK if they were always like this or what but I'm loving pulse lasers immensely now.

Congrats, you got 17 kills in a mech that thrives on high ping, has hit boxes that are remarkably similar to a known broken Spider and carries the weapon load out of a medium mech......your 1337 skillz are amazing.

I'm simply getting super-agitated by this game. Frankly the changes did squat, because the hitreg hasn't actually been addressed.

So, I guess this is my official "I'm talking a break from this game", because the meta is too stale.

Using SRMs on patch day.. this was the "best game of the day":

Thanks meta. If I don't go meta, I guess I should go home. Using a 3ASRM4 Shadowhawk is "illegal".

Going lights is a chore:

Can't win them all, but it ended up like 2 lights vs 2 assaults in the end game. Fun.

Mo' meta, less fun for everyone else:

Nothing says depressing when the light mech has to carry:

Screw this, I wanted to win and ragequit for the night. I guess I succeeded:

Seriously... the game remains ultimately unchanged since patch day and if I go heavy/assault... I'm more likely to win. If I go brawler or light, I have to carry 2 or 3 other people inevitably. Why does PGI even bother?

Screw it, my SRM needs a serious fix+buff rally and MWO "boycott from boredom" (aka DL's official vacation) begins for at least a week, unless something of interest comes along (there probably won't be) until "clan patch day".

It was definitely a good start, not seeing nearly as much pinpoint damage from across the map now and SRMs are performing a little better, as they should be. I'm also seeing a bit of a resurgence of LRMs (again) to replace the ACs now that they are once again in the high tier if you want long range.

It's still not perfect but it's amazing how a couple simple fixes changes the battlefield for the better.

It might just be confirmation bias or not enough sample size or something but I played a number of matches yesterday and did pretty decent with SRMs and other weapons, although personally I don't use them as my main weapon so they're complemented by lasers and/or ballistics. Still though, I did get some decent damage while firing SRMs and I don't even use artemis for them on my (current) mechs.

It's not much confirmation bias (I have SRMs to some degree of success prior to this patch, so currently what we have is pretty much more or less the same), and sure the sample size is not enough, but right now trying to use it in the current environment (depending on your Elo bracket) for me is asking to take more beatdowns that necessary to "adjust" my Elo to a "certain point" where it isn't as common to run PPC+ACs.

When people say they have had "great success", they clearly aren't playing at levels that "prohibit" or "forbid" such things.

I'm just too tired to care at this point.

Hey, I'm a bad player. I used to struggle to reach 5 kills a match but this time the legs were popping like firecrackers. I got low standards, mate

In all of your games you scored well damage wise, best on your team in most cases. In one match you lost and had the most damage done for the match. Why are you feeling so pissed. You were dealing more damage in a light that all the Meta builds! Personally If I had your scores... I'd be gloating. Win or lose You did more damage than all but a few of the Meta builds!

As to the Meta... Well ACs and PPCs ARE the most popular weapons for a very long time (decades).

I noticed no real difference from the balance changes, i still fear the metamechs... I still treat srm mechs as unarmed.

Do srms actully work for anybody? becuase for the last month or more I've got the the point that if i see a splat-cat, ill laugh as i turn my back on it and leave it to last because i know that maybe it'll do 20 damage to me if it blasts away all night.

The srm mediums are even funnier, its like "ooh.. two medium lasers are your only weapons?"

Ive been testing med pulse lasers and while they are slightly more viable, they are still junk compared to med lasers given the 2x tonnage and higher heat for marginal improvements.

I think they would benefit a lot more if their heat was reduced further. Its the 2 tons per med pulse that just makes them non viable. Also standardize all pulse lasers to 0.5 burn time (not like paul would do any of this).

Large and small pulse are still total garbage as usual.

Actually just make all DHS dissipate 2.0 heat and see what happens. That would help even the playing field between ballistics and the other weapons. When you can only fire a volley every 7-8 seconds and its spread damage vs a ballistic boat firing forever, the gap is huge.
