For Pilots Without Clan Package What Will You Be Running On Invasion Day?

For example, one of the biggest complaints about a large laser is how you can't concentrate damage due to its long pulse duration. Well now look at a Clan ER LL, sure it has a bit longer range, but to offset this it will have a longer pulse duration making it even harder to concentrate damage. Most weapons will be set up like this it seems.
Then you have situations like the 50 ton Nova which only allow for having a standard structure. All my IS mechs of that weight range use Endo which means you lose about 3 tons of space for weapons, armor and equipment on the Nova compared to most IS mechs of similar weight which pretty much offsets any weight advantage clan weapons will have.
I will admit, there are potentially a few Clan mech that might end up dominating. The Timberwolf comes to mind since even in Table Top it was about the perfect combination of weight, speed and firepower and it is equiped with all the weight saving equipment in game giving it the most versatility. Direwolf might also fit this bill just to the sheer size and amount of hardpoints available, but most of the others are going to be severely crippled by all the restrictions PGI has placed on the Clan mechs.
Also we all know shape and size of the mech will make a huge difference. The Summoner for example has a huge, easily target-able CT just like the Awesome and no amount of Clan tech is going to fix that flaw.

I think the Nova with the 12 ERMLasrs will be an interesting build. If it has the longer beam durration (being a clan ER), will that make it a bit more effective against Heavy and Assault mechs (due to their slower speed, and more stand-off distance), but make it a bear to do damage against smaller quicker mechs like Mediums and Lights?
Not to mention what kind of heat production will a 12 ERMLaser mech generate. Obviously alpha striking will not happen (maybe more like, fire 6 ERMLasers...pause...fire 6 ERMLasers). Still, I will be curious to see how this mech performs with the clan weapon quirks.

Mine will be fully mastered and built effectively before hitting the field. Gotta get that Dire Wolf moving faster than 48kph.

Oh I definitely am interested in the Nova but 12 ER Medium lasers with only 18 of our pathetic version of DHS isn't going to work. Honestly anything more than 6 is going to probably be more than this mech can handle firing on a regular basis and even that many will over heat this mech. Honestly I expect most people to remove quite a few of them but the issue is that at only 1 ton each, you only have 12 tons of weapon space and that is with stock armor amount. Try to drop in Large Lasers into those hardpoints and you have almost nothing left over for anything else including adding extra armor. Don't recall the weight Clan ER PPCs were but the PGI version is likely to be 7 tons each so you aren't going to be able to even mount a pair.
This is what I was talking about. It uses standard internal structure. On an IS mech, just drop in endo and you free up 3-4 tons for weapons, heat sinks or extra armor. That is not happening on a Nova and losing 3-4 tons for these items compared to an IS mech is going to heavily equalize out the two mechs even before you count the fact that Clan weapons are getting nerfed across the board to prevent them from really outclassing IS weapons. The end result is it is quite likely, the Nova will end up much worse than a comparable player customized 50 ton IS mech.

This! I'll have a clan pack (size still TBD), but I'll likely be majoring in my old favorites for a bit while I see how things shake out.

Was going to say something along the lines of this. I don't have high hopes for new content in this game like I did Way Back When™. I put away my console games for a looooong time because of MWO, I played nothing but MWO for a year or two, but I haven't been playing much at all for the last few months, and last night I bought a PS4. It's going to take more than the prospect of shooting a bunch of golden penises who wasted their money to get me excited about Clan stuff.

On the topic, I'll probably be in my Jenner-D with my newfound build that includes medium pulse lasers (something I didn't think would happen for a while) thanks to the further range buff & heat decrease.
