PGI, if you keep working like this we will go broke from giving you all our money. Seriously, guys, keep up the good work. This is what we like to see from you as far as informing the community.

So lemme get this straight, there is more outcry from the community over a meaningless logo compared to Community Warfare where in the logo and faction selection would be useful in the first place?

Um...no. Where have you been for the last 2 years? Go do a word count, or even thread count for the amount of outcry over the lack of CW and compare it to the outcry for this. Results won't even be close.

Doesn't change the fact that this reaction was both warranted and entirely preventable. Not to detract from the fact that it is commendable they reacted in a timely fashion, of course. Just sayin.

They are okay (they did wonders with the Falcon; no longer a pigeon) and I do not mind them, but I would like something much closer to the originals like they did with the Inner Sphere logos.

By saying Clanner, you speak as a Spheroid would. Its "Clansmen or Clansman" not Clanner.

Actually, the books say "Clanner", and not Clansman.

Russ, thank you for listening.
But you would save a lot of work and trouble by just releasing these in the first place:

I'm not a graphic artist and I don't want to offend the PGI artist's work, but this is how the Clan logos should be:

And a bonus: (for players of other Clans)

PS: I just made a montage of the traditional Clan logos with some basic Photoshop. I didn't draw and don't own these sources.

EDIT: Like the traditional logos best? Vote in the pool.

Boy, the lawsuit from running those logos would be one for the ages.

In the opening post they mentioned exactly why they're not using the old logos. The real reason is the potential lawsuits (it's plural, no mistake there).

You clearly don't get how development works. The art guys aren't responsible for coding weapon balance or mech physics, or things like that. Basically, this isn't taking any dev time, and this is aimed at clan pilots, who have been shafted for quite a while now.

The same lawsuit they would get with using this:

That one has enough deviation that they can muddle the laws on it a bit. It's the same with the other IS logos, they have all been modified in some way to push for "it's not the same picture" arguments.

Wait a sec... ok, so by my timeline check we've rolled back, what.. twice? So technically those past two years don't count. We're starting over, fresh. New leaf. So, yeah, my point is still valid.

I wonder if that means another 3050 weekend? Personally, I'd settle for a cockpit item of the alarm clock from "Groundhog Day" that has the time set to "30:50", and plays music like a warhorn, but to the tune of "I Got You, Babe" by Sonny & Cher.

Come on, you know it's a great idea.

Sure, small and subtle changes.
Very small.

There is nothing wrong with the logo's or their use. Its the specific IMAGES that are the issue.

They can use the logo's in the same way that Neversoft can use Batman for Injustice, but that doesn't mean they can get the "Arkam Assylum" Batman model (which belongs to rocksteady.) Because in the end, they didn't make it.

Same with the icons that people just LOVE to point out it takes "5 minutes" to get done.

Those images where made for the BG and TT. Which is a part of the license for this franchise owned by Topps / Catalyst at this point. The license these guys use is the digital distribution rights off of Microsoft. So the rights are a not too clear thing because the images that people are floating around out there right now are images made by a company that is not under the microsoft umbrella license.

Its the same deal with any other licensed product. They are free to make their own versions of the logo's, or even their own direct copy's of the "original" designs, but they can't just lift the images made by another company under another part of the license. It will have to be made from scratch because they don't have the rights to use any of the "Topps" owned BT content. (As the fine print looks like this game is made under license with Microsoft alone.)

There is nothing dubious about the legal status. This is just business as usual for working with a property with a fragmented license.

Thanks for listening Russ. Also, see Odanan's suggestions above for how CSJ ought to look.

cheers

I approve of the outreach but I believe the remakes of Clan Stark and Clan Green Parakeets are fine and in fact improve on the original.

It's really Clan Fuzzy Ursas and Clan Whispy Cat that need some work.

I couldn't stop myself. But my point still stands. CW and CJF are definitely good remakes. CGB and CSJ should be reworked.

Thank you for giving us this opportunity, I understand the need for a light re-design and have confidence it'll be a good solution.
