I understand you stated your a Clanner at heart, Jade Falcon to be precise, but if you want to try your hand at group play using Teamspeak, feel free to go to the Marik forums and go through some of the threads there. Marik does take pride in helping out new players to the game.

Finding people to group with at the skill level you're comfortable with will take some time for sure, but at the very least, give yourself a chance by trying it out, whether with House Marik or with other clan/house/merc units.

Lastly, check out the New Player Guide forums. There are lots of people there that have posted guides and give out helpful tips on how to play this complicated game. And what's even funny/scary is that PGI isn't even done programming the complexities of this game.

Anyways, hope I helped a little.

I'm going to promote people I don't even know here but from all accounts Clan Ghost Bear : http://ghost-bear-command.com/

and Clan Nova Cat http://cncalpha.enjin.com/ seem to be noobie friendly (as long as you are willing to be trained and learn). How do you feel about joining the children of Kerensky ? :)

Appreciate the bump.

Our teamspeak, if interested, is novacat.teamspeak3.com, and we always welcome people into our channel. Just want to hang, ask a few questions, do a few drops, whatever. No pressure to join whatsoever. New players are welcome, as skill comes with time, but a piss poor attitude is much harder to scrub.

Eventually will come a time that, if you stick to dropping solo, you will hit a wall. Your skill will be there, but without coordination or, at least, reliable teammates your ability to up your odds will stop. Eventually, perhaps not now, but eventually looking into a Clan or a unit is a good idea.

Welcome to "ELO" we have suggested they have a "new player"queue for your fist 200-500 games. That way you're playing with similar players obviously skill will vary but you can never actually rate "skill".

I'd like to start off by saying that I have always liked this genre of games since I was little and played with my dad. I may not be a lore monger like I know some here are, but I know enough to get by. That being said.

I would like to make it clear that this is from the perspective of a completely new player. I'm open to suggestions and critique, as long as it's positive. Keep your trolling and negative remarks to yourself because like your remarks, are useless.

While many aspects of this game are very fun. I have found that so many things are completely broken. Particularly the subject matter of the thread.

Out of the 30ish games I have played, I have only won *maybe* 12? Largely in part due to the system in which I am matched against other players. I have found that I am either stuck with a group who is completely new like myself against a pre-composed group of highly skilled players who completely run us over. Or the flip flop and I get no kills, hardly any cash at all and am left to continue hoping for a good game. I find it completely broken that as a new player I am forced to go into a match not knowing anyone at all fearing that every game will be a slaughter fest at the hands of players who have been here for who knows how long. Why isn't there a system in place that pits new players against new players only and veterans against veterans only? This is something I feel that needs to be implemented badly.

Again. This game has many fun things about it, but with every game that passes I am drawing closer and closer to deleting my account, uninstalling the game and avoiding spending any money on a title that I actually really do like.

It would be tremendously helpful and valuable if I could get some developer feedback or something. Because this is hilariously and depressingly sad.

You need to join a group...seriously...it is THE fix for the new player PUG blues. Come talk to us...see if you like it, try some drops with a TEAM in a TEAM game.

Would Clan Wolf accept a Jade Falcon point in their den? Me thinks not. :)
But thank you though! Maybe I will check you out. Wolf was always my second favorite, followed by Diamond Shark.

I would say your best bet is to look at some of the Faction forums and join up with a group. I've noticed that starting a new mech, without any unlocks, is terribad. I started a new mech the other day with single heat sinks on the Lava map and before I even engaged I was at 60% heat. That doesn't help the ole survivability. So join a team to do 4-mans or 12-mans and work on mastering a chassis or two. And besides that, just play to have fun. However difficult that can be at times.

This is also useful. But I don't know anyone. And all my inquiries have led me to: Sign up on this forum so we can think about letting you join. Oh wait, you're a noob. No thanks. Skilled players only. Good day.

There are units out there that wont pressure you into joining unless you really like the guys you are playing with. My unit for example invites anyone who wants a friend to dop with if you like then by all means signup, but we have guys who I call "lurkers" tat are there just because they like the guys but dont want the commitment. Our teamspeak is on the home page of hhod.com and there is normally atleast 40-50 people on most of the day and night.

Other then that try the House Liao server or any of the general house servers even some of the Clanner. if they say you have to join to drop tell them to piss off. if you go into the davion room and go into the HHoD section and someone tells you that you need to sign up to drop tell them " Kyle said to suck it" and find some of the guys that have a tag with LL5?? or 5BCO, or just generally guys with red insignia's to the right of their name.

Either way good luck with your journey and feel free to send me a friend invite, you can be my lance mate anytime.

Number 1 tip for new players: Take only a light or medium mech and DO NOT start moving when the match starts. Just sit there from 1 - 2 minutes then go.

Why? Simple. This will give you a chance to see if you are playing with a "herd" or a "tactical" team. From there either support the herd or play to support the tactic in play. This way you will observe game play AND enjoy the experience more. Chances are you won't be doing tons of damage but you can start focusing on assists and then get better to the point where you can get confidence to commit and kill.

Learning and practicing this will de-stress you on the whole W/L or K/D ratios that most fps games have brainwashed you into believing really matters. Regardless of why this game has such a steep learning curve and high stress level.. as a beginner to be successful learn the maps, pay attention to your assists and learn how to read team mechanics/tactics from the first minute and you will see lots of improvement.

Welcome to MWO. Unfortunately the tryhards WILL hit you on the way out as they scramble like dogs for that juicy K/D ratio.

Maybe I will try you out. Any particular Teamspeak I should hop into to give you guys a test run?

i would also like to invite other new players to share their experiences in this thread. I think it would be vital to get some positive feedback about issues that current new players face with how things are now so maybe a response and change can come.

Yeah no problem man. Just gotta find a group that is right for you. Every groups unique and does things differently. Big thing to ask yourself is how serious do you plan on being in the game? Are you casual or do you want to be ultra competitive? Example for the unit I'm with we have several battalions with guys that drop 2-4 times a week and are semi competitive. We have active reserve for guys that may only make it once or twice every few weeks. We also have Team 007 that plays 5 days a week. Other units are similar. Like I said it pays to shop around. Play with a group for a week or two and just hop to another after... kind of like test driving a new car before you buy it. At the end of the day your game experience is more important.

i hope you didn't take my response to be sarcastic, i really mean you should try and take the commander role i think more people should, why?

even if you drop with 3 other guys as a team, you're not guaranteed a win; if lance c goes and commits suicide your lance is on your own sometimes and easily killed; you can talk to your mates but not with the whole team;
lances who communicate with the pug is always the best team to be in.

now, i was kinda expecting you to figure some stuff out on your own, but one starting pattern you will see is that there are some kind of teams on the field; 3 type:
the brawler team
the sniper team
the lrm team

sometimes its a mix of those but one side will be more heavy almost always; that's what dictates where the team should go
if your team has got lrm you want to go over the platform on crimson strait, NOT UNDER.
if your team is brawler you want to go below and take the tunnel, it's a similar problem in hpg manifold, where you cannot expect your team to go below if they have long range missile, it would be stupid - so off the bat this should dictate where your team or at least you personally move on your team so you can help tip the scales in your team's favor.

some maps just have plain undesirable locations to be in, like in canyon network you simply do not want to be down in the valleys unless you're fast - and the ramp that leads up to theta is a pretty solid location from both sides up.
in caustic, the circular push is best around caldera, and the gimmicky route is 3 line (much like tunnel is on frozen city).

in the new assault mode river city is a turret fight, map favors brawlers esp. if not in water and during daytime

i mean, i have played with several teams not just drop in the marik teamspeak, but with friends from all houses,
but if you got a bad 8 other players then you get stomped anyway, the best single thing you can do by yourself to boost your own rating is.. to get savvy and call the shots yourself

Yeah kind of been a lurker myself. I've been around a few of the TS servers for Steiner, Davion, some merc groups but overall they seem to be in their own little clicks and haven't really reached out to me personally. I wish you luck Myrmidos in finding your place.

As for me, I may be House Davion for now, but I am a merc at heart and I go to whoever pays the bills. Specialize in Light, Heavy, and Assault (although Assault is my most successful). Currently working on just personal goals for me, trying to master the FIrestarter right now among other lights. Got my first Spider-5D today so that will give me a new line of Lights to work on.

This may be a team game but I find teammates come and go, outfits form and break, in the end all you got is you....and your mech.

More along the lines of: Do not be so hasty to judge others or their tactics, especially when you are just starting out. Do not dismiss something because you hate it, but understand why it works and how to turn it against itself. Only then do you improve as a pilot.

A time for solidified opinions comes, but when you are new? No. That is the time to close your mouth and open your eyes and ears. Informed opinions matter - kneejerk thoughts do not.
