Didn't he also get shot in the back by his one true love in a Summoner :)?

Yep, and his love was also in a Summoner.

Aidan had merely adapted the Timberwolf but he was born in a Summoner, and molded by it.

It is no coincidence that PGI put the Timber Wolf in the 2nd to highest priced Clan package. Everyone wants one, and unless you buy it a la carte, you are going to have to pay big bucks to get it.

If it weren't for the variant with JJ, it wouldn't be that great. The low slung arms and easy to hit missile pods will make it a little more difficult to pilot I think, but it definitely has better hardpoints than the Summoner. No matter which one you prefer, you should just go ahead and get them both. I sure will.

The Timber Wolf is the face of Mechwarrior for a reason. Being a jack of all trades myself it would certainly work with my style. Not sure what to think of the summoner, even way back in MW2 I never used it. I think I mostly used the Vulture or Timber Wolf.

I wont lie, the Maddog i would probably cave into buying for real money.

Only because of this video.

Oh hell i'd forgotten about that...thing. I really hope we get a Mad Dog that looks more like the original.

Real Mad Dog:

I definitely dont want one. Madcats are too hipster. Why would you want to pilot a mech everyone else is?

I think hipster is the wrong word. Or Mad Cat is the wrong mech.

Because I fell in love with its looks like everyone else 15 or more years ago... ?

Not that I'm buying a clan pack, but to me, the timberwolf, mad-dog, and the shadowcat are the most iconic clan mechs that look good. The warhawk, dire wolf, and kit fox all that the ugly cowling, which might well be fairly practical and is fairly iconic as well for clan mechs, but it's not sleek and deadly looking to my eye.

But it's fun as hell. And it's not a good comparison anyway. Too slow, no JJs, doesn't use Clan weapons and so forth. Let's just wait and see k?

You can match everything except for the weapons and JJ's. Unless the weapons are vastly superior to the IS counter parts, the DPS is really low due to cooldowns.

I love the Summoner/Thor mechs but I dont see them doing well in MWO as anything but a poptart mech.

The comparison is difficult at best, they really are 2 different mechs. I think the better question is "How will the Summoner stand up against the CTF-3D" i.e. an IS mech the same weight as it. Sadly with the limitations on Omnimechs and the nerfing of clan weapons, I can not see it really competing with the 3D in any way.

True! I guess the Summoner is for people who want a more agile 3D?

Personal tastes. I prefered the Summoner over the Timber Wolf in MW2. I could actually avoid stuff in the Summmoner. There may not be cover for me to poptart behind in Mechwarrior 2, but the jumpjets were still awesome because it helped with your mobility so much in that game. Timber Wolf's huge hitbox was it's main problem in that game, as the computers would almost never miss you in a Timber Wolf compared to everything lighter.
If I was fighting other players in Mechwarrior 2, Timber Wolf for sure, since players won't miss.
Of course if you customize everything the Timber Wolf is better since older Mechwarrior games make the heaviest mechs the most OP, and in Mechwarrior 2 you could practicly do any build you want as long as you had the tonnage.

I'd like to see the Summoner do more with the Missle and Energy hardpoints, instead of only using ballistic hardpoints. personally.
Whatever the case is, I'm not going to play the Summoner same way I did with the Cataphract 3D.

With half the weapons and medium mech armor, and no apparent advantage over a Mad Cat.

I never really looked at the weight, how the hell does the Summoner weigh 70t? It's load out is more like a 60 tonner.

Because it has an excessively large engine, FF instead of Endo, and few too many JJ (5), it had to give up something, namely armor, weapons, and ammo.

It doesnt appear to add up though. The TW has a 375xl, tons more armor and firepower. I take it these JJ's are 1 ton each?

Because as engines increase in size they get less efficient in terms of weight. So mechs with excessively large engines like the Thor and Mad Cat end up with very little weight for weapons.

That is why a Mad Cat only has half the weapons of a Daishi, despite having 3/4ths the tonnage. Because most of the Mad Cats tonnage is tied up in its engine.

It does add up. The Thor doesnt have endosteel. While the Madcat does. So thats 3.75 extra tons for the Mad Cat right there. Plus the 5 extra tons it gets for the tonnage difference (70 vs 75). Thats 8.75 extra tons to the Mad Cat, which is enough to make the Mad Cat outright better.
