That actually might be a really good way to do C3.

A C3 master computer grants bonuses to range and projectile speed, which scales based on how close a C3 slave unit is to an an enemy.

no
no reason the CC should effect projectile speed. Decreased lock time, increased sensor range, decreased target info gathering time..sure...but no effect to projectile speed (how would it increase that anyway?? what mechanic would it use to give missiles greater thrust or increase the powder charge used in aC shells?)

But it seems that you all forget CC main purpose...
http://www.sarna.net...Command_Console
Its a command center simple as that :P and it should become that..

I was saying that Khobai's CC idea would work well in implementing C3, which in the board game, provides similar gunnery bonuses as Clan targeting computers to units in the network based on the proximity of a spotter.

oh, i'd love to see a viable implementation of C3 here....but is shouldn't effect projectile speed in any way..accuracy? of course, Range? sure and many other bonuses....but not projectile speed

The idea is, because Clan targeting computer do the same bonuses, the Inner Sphere version would take more team work. It doesn't really make sense that a targeting computer somehow adds additional capacitors to a PPC to give it faster speed or more powder to an autocannon shell to give it more feet per second, but because it does, C3 could be a similar system for the Inner Sphere.

Wait is that Annette Bening in that video? They actually paid money for her to do a short scene? LOL.

I'm saying neither system should increase projectile speed

I'd be happy to see the CC allow the driver to draw on the battlegrid and have it show up on friendly radar minimaps. There are other similar tactical options that could make the CC more unique and interesting.

Can we get back to the real question at hand? Is that Annette Bening?

I don't think CryEngine is capable of rendering more than one scene without making your computer burn the house down.

A better approach would be to give the commander a role where he doesn't actually drive a mech at all, but can freely spectate any friendly mech 1 at a time and use the battlegrid to give orders.

no reason the CC should effect projectile speed.

And the CC wouldnt effect projectile speed. The CC would just give teamwide sensor and detailed sensor info bonuses.

We were discussing what a C3 network should do if it were added. C3 is the basically what IS gets instead of targeting computers, it allows lances of mechs to share targeting info, and boosts accuracy of weapons.

The way I see it projectile speed is the closest thing to improving accuracy we have. So having a C3 network boost projectile speed is about as true to tabletop as you can get.

seems a little complicated.

personally id be fine if the CC just stayed as is, but also gave its bonuses to all friendly IS mechs.

It's not complicated Battlefield 2 had it and Battlefield 4 has it.

you realize hundreds of people worked on battlefield though right? PGI has like 25 people. putting unrealistic expectations on PGI helps no one.

I agree with the general sentiment that the CC should provide passive bonuses to any teammates within a given broadcast range of the host mech. Nothing that inherently affects the weapons per se. But bonuses like reduced data gathering time would be good... sensor range, etc. Perhaps we could add some new functionality as well... maybe a spotting feature which would allow the CC mech to broadcast the location of all enemy mechs of a given range that appear within a certain degree of perspective of the host mech? Basically, instead of target locking a single mech, and broadcasting that one location, maybe it could broadcast all enemy mechs within say, 600m, and 20 degrees vertical and 70 degrees horizontal of the host mech's current view. Sorta like a very limited UAV.

Well the command console could give a zoom bonus, sensor bonus, and detailed target info speed bonus to all friendly IS mechs on the map.

While the C3 master computer could give range and projectile speed bonuses to lancemates with C3 slaves (C3 slaves should come equipped automatically for free on all IS mechs, but be useless without a C3 master computer, which would require tonnage). The C3 master computer also comes with an integrated TAG laser if I recall.

So clan mechs would have to have individual targeting computers. While IS would rely more on buffing teammates. Makes sense.

I agree with this, except only the Command Console equipped mech gets the zoom bonus (the other mechs can carry the Zoom module if they need it). And to entice a few players to carry it, the CC would provide a 5% C-Bill bonus.
