Narc's counter is AMS that would be fine if ams actually worked as it should, except it doesn't shoot down missiles reliably for high pingers as it does for low pingers,

My ping is 240 and my STK-5S laughs at all the missiles these Clanners chuck, while replying the volleys with my own. Dual AMS+5 tons of AMS ammo and still got space to jam in ALRM50+3ML and TAG. Just mastered it and gave the improved AMS module on the 2nd slot.

In game, I just follow the first Direwhale I see and shield+support the guy.

Let's see... Cover in Caustic Valley.

The 2/3 line ridge, The standing rocks at the end of the 2 line, the lip of the cauldera (that involves some skill... you must know how to break locks and move a little), The refinery area, the large standing rocks next to the base on the other side of the refinery, the hills next to the lake and the 5 line. If you look carefully, there are more ridges and outcroppings that work just fine too along the edges.

These chunks of cover work almost every time. (let's face it if they're behind you, you are just in the open with an impediment behind you.

I'm leaving out two particularly tasty chunks of cover because let's face it, I'm not giving away ALL the secrets. All the skill involves a certain amount of cover, knowing how to not getting locked or how to deal with it after.

this cover may not be where you want it, but that's just the point, you don't get to have that choice. you play where the cover is.

Wasn't it stated somewhere that AMS was actually server side? Betty isn't which is why she can sometimes tell you about the missiles AFTER they've hit, but pretty sure AMS is not affected by ping.

In other news, there is a Nerf for Narc. The problem is PGI got it backwards. ECM is not meant to be as OP as it is in MWO. If ECM worked like it did in TT, NARC, TAG, and Artemis would be negated by it, not the other way around. That said, Missiles would still lock on to ECM Mechs, it'd just take longer.

Did you know that SRMs are meant to be guided also? The difference between SRMs and Streaks, was that Streaks would ONLY fire if all the Missiles were locked, whereas SRMs would fire, but were not guaranteed to hit.

Maps need a serious revamping before that argument works. Not every location will be ideal, but when pilots actually USE the cover they are given and the missiles clip through it anyways, EFF that noise.

It has been stated many times by devs, the clipping is graphics only. If you are taking damage it is because you got hit before you got into cover or you are not actually behind enough cover.
And nearly all maps are nothing but cover except for a few places like open water or center areas like on Caustic/Tourmaline.

my secret is to press launch and i get no ecm. it is rare that i get 1 ecm in my team - what's yours for gettin 2+?????

Low ELO means players that don't know what they're doing (including building mechs) so you won't get much support from your team. With higher ELO you get better players who play more as a team (though not always).

also i am waiting for you guys to list the places in caustic where you can get at least adequate cover from LRM with the height

i mentioned 3, that's it. are you going to say 2 line? because that's not safe from the lrm barrage

i have ams and i guess it sometimes doesn't shoot down the narc, i have it in all my mechs

I suggest you watch some streamers or NGNG YouTube matches for help in learning how to use the maps to your own advantage. It's easier than trying to explain. But it comes with practice...unfortunately not to all and some just have to accept that they aren't good at this particular game.
