I concur, but the total value of a mech is the sum of its parts. Weapons, Engine, Upgrades, Armor, Heatsinks. The Clan gear will be more expensive, it is lighter, stronger and better. So it will cost more.

More, but not necessarily 3 times more.

Well, i think we just found a great C-Bill sink for them then. Clan mechs, fully upgraded and ready to go, just more expensive.

I don't think you and I have the same definition of c-bill sink. Only a few more days till we find out though.

Prices of clan mechs should not be an issue as they will be so heavily nerfed from what clan tech really is that it will (or should) drastically reduce the cost from what it would have been in BT world.
The clan tech as PGI will be introducing it will be a watered down version and will have little to do with BT with exception to looks.

Which is why I originally redunded the mechs but decided to buy again as with pgi they are likely to back track and buff them all quite a bit anyways and will be more fun to use afterwards. I want the clan mechs to be beefy not wimpy and easy to take out.

There has been some speculation about how much they're going to cost, and that's interesting in its own way, but what I'm thinking about is customization.

I was building up a nest egg and I got to wondering how much of it I'd actually need for modding Clan mechs, given that they come with DHS and XL engines, neither of which you can modify, and you can neither add nor remove ferro or endo (or artemis- Clan mechs don't even have Artemis, do they?) and the arms (and legs? I guess?) are Mister-Potato-Head swappable... I guess I might need to buy some clan weapons, but that shouldn't be terribly expensive, especially not if I strip out and re-use weapons rather than leaving them equipped.

It's going to be awesome....to just buy a mech and not have to dump another several million c-bills into it to get it so it can fight. And then, even more awesome, once you find a hardpoint/weapons combo you like on a given mech, you can probably have the same load out on all the variants while you grind up XP for mastery skills.

A C-Bill sink is money flowing into and out of the system creating a need to accumulate. The accumulation and expenditure of Clan mechs will come with the initial purchase price, forcing players to save, augmented by Omni-Pods prices and extra weapon prices.

The IS mechs will come in bits and pieces, albeit allowing a lower initial overhead, but customization costs will stay the same as they currently are. Small initial investment, higher customization costs.

The funny thing is, without an in-game economy, and I am NOT suggesting one, a C-Bill sink is only partially necessary to keep funds low and enhance the need for 'quick' purchases with MC.

I have spent a great deal of c-bills customizing and re-customizing IS mechs. Changing engines, taking endo and feroo on and off. The initial outlay is not the sink. The repeated customization after purchase is the sink. At least that's how I see it.

You're forgetting about the CT slots, the hardwired weapons, etc ^_^. But yeah, I hope all that will be the case.

We've both been playing this game a long time. After this long, I'm sure you have a bunch of engines in your stable, much like I do. I bet you have a bunch more mechs than I do as well. I currently own 28. Although I rarely, if ever, swap around Ferro and Endo after the first purchase of them, and I never downgrade my heatsinks once I purchase double HS's. Those aren't C-bill sinks, those are purchases to upgrade. Artemis is usually the only thing I swap and only for certain builds, and once again, that is very rare.

The only time I spend C-Bills anymore is when I buy a new chassis then upgrade it to how I want it.
