According to Smurfy's ghost heat chart, a 12 med laser alpha will generate 101.6 heat. This does not include the extra heat for ER med lasers.

If Clan ER med lasers will have the same ghost heat penalties, then the Nova Prime is going to fry itself with one alpha.

Even with the expanded heat scale (which only goes to +50 heat), the pilot will hurt himself, the mech will suffer damage, and the mech will automatically shut down. That would still leave another 20+ points of heat beyond that.

I say we allow mechs to blow up if they reach a super high level of heat. If ever there was a mech hot enough to Stackpole itself, then the Nova Prime would be it.

Unless PGI makes an exception for the Nova Prime, there are going to be new pilots who fire an alpha and have to sit shutdown for who knows how long it takes to dissipate all that heat. That doesn't sound like much fun. In the heat of battle (heh), pilots can easily make a mistake and fire all their weapons at once.

Maybe the whole idea is not to alpha strike everything, every shot.

So you mean to tell me that it is not going to ever happen?

Just because you have a bunch of weapons on your Mech doesn't mean you have to alpha them.

Then don't alpha?
Seriously
If you look at that mech and instantly think "I'm gonna alpha all those lasers and get all the kills" then you need to rethink your play style

Oh, yes...of course. That always works. If you tell someone not to do something, they never try it anyway. What fricking world do you guys live in?

Unless his play style is "fire everything, melt down into a pile of slag, quit match".

Since overheating too much can cause center torso internal damage, don't you already have your wish OP?

People should learn after the first time that it doesn't end well for them.

Then again, I still see 6 PPC stalkers, so what does that say?

This is a stretch even for you, dude.

Is it really that hard to wait half a second in between arms firing?

Dude. It'll happen, for each pilot. ONCE. After that, they better learn not to. It's up to the pilot to control what he does, can't always look to PGI to box us in with arbitrary rules all the time -- because if it that's the case, we might as well play DroidWarrior Online.

Left arm group, right arm group, chain-fire all group.

Heat problems solved.

So PGI is putting a mech in players' hands that will instantly blow itself up? That sounds like bad design to me. Without the ghost heat, those heat levels can be pretty bad, but with it, they are ridiculous.

Well, you can slam 7 PPCs on some mechs and alpha them... so nobody's stopping you or anybody from alpha-ing 12 lasers either.

Yeah, really......its almost as bad as the LIberator pilots in PLanetside 2 who cry when they go near a big battle with tons of flak guns and get mowed out of the sky in 2 seconds, as if they expect 30 flak guns to NOT be able to kill them lol.

same here, people wanna endlessly alpha, if they cannot, the mech is broke, UP and useless....lol.

LOL, thats how I did in MW2. I ran heaps of Med Lasers chain fired.....worked pretty well lol.

It does take a noitceably long time to kill people with chain fired lasers in this game though...

Ford is putting cars in people's hands that let them drive off a cliff into the grand canyon, killing all on board?

SOUNDS LIKE FORD IS PUTTING OUT BAD DESIGNS

I think I'll probably launch on testing grounds to fire off a full alpha from the Nova Prime just to laugh a bit and get the impulse out of myself. Then go kill people with it. :)

You do know PGI didn't directly design that mech right?
Ghost heat or not, common sense dictates firing 12 laser at once will not pay off.

Well of course. If you cant use all your hardpoints at the same time, whats the point?

(I cant remember... I -did- turn my sarcasm processor on, right?)
