If a Clan mech is too much for you, maybe you can ask for something with training wheels?

For when you positively, absolutely, must find out if mechs can melt.

As others have pointed out there is ghost heat on CERML. firing all 12 on the Nova P shuts you down and makes your torso dark orange in 1 Alpha.

There is also ghost heat on ER small lasers. If you fire more than 6, there is a penalty.

This thing is awesome.

Swapped out my left arm for 6xSL and 4xMG in my side torsos. Such a good mech. Great up-close punch, medium lasers are effective at range, 5x jump jets is pretty clutch.

Oh, and I only have 4 free slots with the double standard construction. Gogo 16 hardpoints.

Boots up Mechwarrior 3
Starts a mission, jumps into Supernova.
Points sexy beast's arms at nearby building.
Presses alphastrike button.

Doesnt get to even see the lasers fire, even a little, before camera pans backwards to third person so I can see my smoking heap while betty keeps mumbling somthing about critical.

Laughs, thinks "lol, well, it might run hot, better stick to chain fire"

The supernova is my favorite clan assault mech. I was actually hoping to see a "reinforcments" pack to go with masakari like the griffin and wolvie were, with a supernova and cauldron born. I would have jumped all over that.

Well, you can slam 7 PPCs on some mechs and alpha them... so nobody's stopping you or anybody from alpha-ing 12 lasers either.

There are no mechs that come with 7 PPCs as a stock build, so your argument is invalid.

All Clan lasers have a ghost heat penalty. Med, small, sm pulse, med pulse, and large pulse all have a ghost heat limit. The idea of having a stock mech that completely and totally overheats so bad with an alpha strike is ridiculous. The Awesome and its PPCs being broken is one thing, but to have a stock mech almost explode is ludicrous. The Nova Prime just goes to show that PGI's ghost heat system is a joke, and it has completely broken the game. Now that the Clans are out and will walk all over the IS, there is no reason to penalize a 6 PPC Stalker or a dual AC 20 K2 or Jaegermech. If they had 6 PPC Stalkers and AC40 mechs, they could be more competitive with the Clans. Ghost heat needs to go.

Holy god, shut up. Seriously.

Fire one arm. Wait .5 seconds. Fire the other arm. This isn't difficult. Stop trying to alpha everything.

true, supernova > all. Unfortunately ist one variant only mech, so we will hardly see it ingame at any time.

They fall in the same category as Medium Lasers. Same as LPL go under LL.

You will notice that Inner Sphere MPL are NOT listed.
And I fire 9 of them regularly. They have no ghost heat and run cooling than firing 8 ML (with ghost heat).

Under the Stand Alone list (not linked with any other weapon)...
MEDIUM LASER
C-ER MED LASER
C-ER SML LASER
C-MED PULSE LASER
C-SML PULSE LASER

Above it are autocannons.
Below are missiles.

It's also not in the linked weapons either.

According to Smurfy's ghost heat chart, a 12 med laser alpha will generate 101.6 heat. This does not include the extra heat for ER med lasers.

If Clan ER med lasers will have the same ghost heat penalties, then the Nova Prime is going to fry itself with one alpha.

Which is exactly the way it has always been. And I do mean always

Quote

Even with the expanded heat scale (which only goes to +50 heat), the pilot will hurt himself, the mech will suffer damage, and the mech will automatically shut down. That would still leave another 20+ points of heat beyond that.

I say we allow mechs to blow up if they reach a super high level of heat. If ever there was a mech hot enough to Stackpole itself, then the Nova Prime would be it.

Unless PGI makes an exception for the Nova Prime, there are going to be new pilots who fire an alpha and have to sit shutdown for who knows how long it takes to dissipate all that heat. That doesn't sound like much fun. In the heat of battle (heh), pilots can easily make a mistake and fire all their weapons at once.

I alphaed at the start of a match just to test it. Woke up about 30 seconds later w/ red CT, still laughing uncontrollably. Then I set both weapon groups to chainfire and proceeded to wreck face match after match after match.

Fire discipline is your friend, always has been, and always will be.

There seems to be this misconception among the playerbase that chainfire grouping "locks" the weapons into a 1 every .5 sec deal that cannon ever be altered... They apparently never tried pushing the same group button numerous times much in teh say way a semi-automatic weapon is fired in RL. Because you can still fire as fast as you can pull the trigger, and that`S when things start getting awesome. :D

I convinced my buddy to alpha strike his 12 er ml nova on terra therma

He was shut down for like 30 seconds and his player percentage was slowly dropping while he was shut down too. It stopped at like 94 percent and he had red internals when he powered back up hahaha.
