based on per mech stats, my best win/loss ratio's are in thunderbolts and shadow hawks. does this suggest/recommend any particular clan mech?

as for play style I find I like being just outside the brawl firing in (carefully) and watching for flankers....

edit to add: I feel I should clarify that since I did actually get the full masakari pack I do already own all 8 clan mechs and this thread is mostly to help me figure out which one(s) on which to focus.

I highly recommend the Stormcrow. It's one of the fastest clan mechs and is on par in speed with the Shadow Hawks but has a better cockpit view, better torso twist (almost full 180 after mastery), and better overall firepower with the only limit being a max of 1 ballistic but more energy or missile hardpoints. Even without jump jets, it can climb almost any hill a Raven or Locust can.

I haven't enjoyed the Summoner quite as much but it's comparable to the TDRs and Orions. But with 5 jump jets locked to the torso.

+ 1 to Stormcrow, how does a 4-5 CSSRM6 sound? Oneshotting lights to me ;) It has the same firepower as 2 Streakcats so make the math ;)

I highly recommend all of them. Seriously, they are all fantastic mechs, I even like the lights (and I HATE lights!)

Obviously I am impartial to the Summoner and Timberwolf, as they are Heavy's and they move as fast as my dragon with a much bigger alpha, but the Direwolf and Warhawk are also FANTASTIC mechs, (the dakka wolf satisfies all my ballistic needs!) and the Stormcrow is quite fun, you can use all manner of weaponry on it and be effective, while the Nova runs like a slightly larger Blackjack with more umph.

Stormcrow seems interesting, and brings a lot of gun for it's speed. Max speed of 106kph, max armor, 23 whole tons of pod space.

Nova is the HBK4P on roids, with an even squatter profile and ridiculous small/medium weapon boating. Great escort mech or ambusher or corner-shot specialist. Love my 6ERML/4MG Nova.

Kit Fox if you want a clan ECM.

Dire Wolf for pure meanness with a wide range of ballistic boating and energy boating. Big CT but devastating firepower.

Timberwolf offers good speed, armor, and very flexible. Does almost everything except ballistic boating and energy boating. Fairly tanky. Same speed as Summoner, much more pod space. Fast enough to brawl or flank (89 with speed tweak). Optional jumpjets. Penultimate clan mech! If you don't want the specific builds only available on the Nova or Dire Wolf, Timberwolf. Wish I had one :)

So far I'm loving the Nova and Summoner. Both are fast and deadly with JJs and a versatile weapons arrangements.

Stormcrow (Ryoken), Nova (Blackhawk) and Summoner (Thor) will satisfy all these needs.

Stormcrow is a 55 tonner, as tall as a Wolverine so shorter than what you're used to (Shadowhawk is the tallest of the 55 tonners; Wolverine is the shortest). Nova is very short (shorter than Hunchback) with a huge focus on arm weapons, but it's as wide as a Thunderbolt.

The Summoner is literally the Thunderbolt's successor. It's also cute with a narc pod.
Posted Image

That tiny pod is usually much larger, but it shrinks with smaller launchers. NARC making it the smallest and cutest.
Each arm can be completely replaced by missile launchers, energy weapons, or ballistic weapons.

The view from all 3 mechs is incredible with ultra high visibility to the sides, front, and up. All three can jump if customized correctly. (The jumpjets on the Summoner cannot be removed).
All three can equip energy, ballistic, and missiles.
Of them the Nova is the most limited in the missile department but the most expansive in the ballistic and energy departments.
The Stormcrow is great in both energy and missile departments but lacking in ballistic options.
The Summoner can do well in all three, but is not realistically capable of "20s" in the ballistic department.

Both the Puma and the Kit Fox are tons of fun. Having the ability to sport an ECM Omnipod arm on every Kit Fox chassis rocks. Combine that with the loss of target lock module and you don't notice the slower speeds.

My personal favorite so far is the Summoner (Thor). The base prime is a bit gimp though, so mod it's Omnipods. Overall the chassis is fast, has JJs, and you can do energy builds with MG and ERLL/ERML that can fire alpha's on cold maps and have no heat by the time all lasers recharge. I literally fought 4-5 mechs at the end of a match where I fired every laser (2ER LL and 2 ERML in single fire) for 3 minutes and didn't over heat.

The Dire Wolf (Daishi) if caught on its own gets torn apart imo. With so many weapon options, it can be hard to fire effectively. Sticking with 2 groups of like weapons with a missile option for 3 has worked the best for me. I hate to boat weapons, but this mech is made for it. Seems to be a impossible to miss its center torso.

Didn't get the Masakari, Ryoken, or Mad Cat. People seem to really like the Ryoken, but I haven't been killed by one yet. Masakari is prone to over heating from what I have seen in fights so far. The Mad Cat in pairs can really chew you up. Solo Mad Cats versus fast turning mechs can be taken down. Mad Cat seems to have good hit boxes.

I'm an average player dealing 500 ish dmg per match with IS mech.

Right now, i am feeling very useless in Warhawks. I can't find a OMFG build that hurts like an AC40 jag. This mech has the spare weight but doesn't boat enough hard point to deal the pain. AND is stuck with a stupid ferro fibrous that disallowyou to put slot expensive things..

I played also with nova. This is a whole different thing. These are effective, still slightly below my average IS scores but with LOL score peaks @800 dmg.

Overall, the clan weapons have a bizarre feeling. You have range, they have dps but... the feeling is meh. It is not a ******* big slap in you face like a 2PPC Ac20 combo...

If you had the possibility for only ONE, I would say the Timber Wolf.

It is THE iconic clan mech by excellence, is very versatile. And is fast, can mount jump jet, and use both short range and long range weapon.

Beside, he look badass.

Stormcrow is in a sweet spot for speed, maneuverability, and available firepower. It has endo/ff, plus it has no equipment hardlocked to the chassis, making it much more customizable than the summoner or nova.

I have a Shadowhawk 2D2 as a keeper mech, and I love it. Summoners play like Shadowhawks with 15 more tons to put stuff in.
Seriously. Have seen them soak and spread amazing amounts of damage and live.
Some don't like the limited (compared to other mechs) hardpoint availability. But with some lab work you can make them very potent. Not over heating is a goodness thing..
Stormcrow is also very good, but no jj, The lights are a blast, play them like a fast IS medium.
Jump jets are your friend...:D
Direwolf is.... not random battle friendly is the politest way to describe it.
You already know about the Madcat. But since you mentioned a Shadowhawk, Summoner is the closest thing to it.

IT IS A PAIN I HAVE NEVER FELT BEFORE!

Do not buy the Dire Wolf, you run with less than 50kph behind the battles or the pugs let you die alone in your one-hitbox-only mech in lurmageddon. In conquest I never make more than 100 damage with this mech because of this.
If you want fun, the Kit Fox is everything you ever asked for in a light or medium mech. It is the Shadow Hawk you always wanted. Nova and Stormcrow are components killers and rewarding if you know how to shield and cover.

Well I just upgraded my pack to include the nova. Played only 9 games so far - 18 kills 2 deaths, 2 losses and one draw. Not even with the basics unlocked - my personal best when breaking out a brand new chassis/loadout.

I vote Kitfox.

Very customizable and has the ECM.

I hear lots of good about the madcat and stormcrow.
