(In seriousness, TBR seems to be the most adaptable of the clan mechs.)

yeh, i have the direwolf on preorder. I'm just asking because now i'm leaning towards the timberwolf for being versatile and having that potential for being able to do everything itself. On the other hand most of the time due to how the maps are designed, usually all you need is a big ******* wad of hitpoints and guns and the direwolf is big enough to not only pack lrm's as a missile platform, but to pack autocannons ppc's and big lasers as well. After the clrm's can properly do damage closed ranged, then I won't really be disadvantaged in close range at all even if they're taking a third of my tonnage.
slow doesn't bother me. I used to carry pub games solo in my atlas. Of course since elo was introduced its a bit more difficult when elo says "hey you're doing pretty good, would be a shame if I put you on a team with people who can't survive for more than three minutes." ATM I'm playing a gauss catapult, and its very dependent on team competence and is the wrong solo mech to play, but in a group of competent people on a map that isn't plagued by invisible walls I usually wind up with 5 kills and 500 damage, which for dual gauss is quite a bit, but I digress.
i'd definitely get the timberwolf if it wasn't for the fact that they'll be everywhere and they'll need big things to play around.

The direwolf is flat out bad in PUG's, to be honest. If you have a group, and people to watch your flanks, it's awesome. Alone in a PUG, you'll die a lot because you get isolated and ganked by... well, anything. The Direwolf is an atrociously bad one-on-on mech against anything except another Dire Wolf or an Atlas.

That said, Timber Wolf really is the one mech I can tell you can probably do it all. Some mechs can do their things better but for versatility I don't think anything really beats it.

there is a technique to killing small fast things when you handle like a barge, and I'm quite good at it. The only downside of the direwolf is no lower arm actuators, but i plan on using the one arm that can have lower actuators with dual ppc...
but idk, i guess the one thing that keeps me away from the timberwolf is that everybody is going to have one.

If you equip a PPC on that arm, you lose the LAA. So, if you want dual CERPPC's and the A right arm, you need to equip both energy arms.
It's not about technique.
The Dire Wolf handles so poorly, it's easy to stay completely out of it's firing arcs even in a fast heavy, let alone a Medium or a Light. Even with an average pilot, a Medium or Light can easily solo a Dire Wolf, and that encounter is almost entirely out of the Dire Wolf pilot's hands.
What's more, the Dire Wolf has an *enormous* center torso, and one that can be hit even from the sides. As such, they tend to get cored very quickly.

The Timber is a Heavy, meaning it has a decent amount of armor + Firepower. Ontop of that, its speedy as hell. (ignore the fact that it 'can' have Jumpjets, as the highest it can ever jump is barely high enough to get ontop of a hill without walking up it)
The Sumoner i think is classified as a Medium?. Its got decent firepower, though can only carry a 'few' weapons. Its real strength is that it can jump around like a jack-n-the-box. And can move pretty fast on its own.
The one i cant remember the name of is a medium as well i believe.. Though it more resembles the 'vultures' from Mechwarrior, it can sport long range missiles + long range lasers. So it can attack at range + move around nimbly.
I honestly wouldn't recommend the DireWolf as a solo ship... as its so slow you NEED friends to stay with you. And Most pug's just run off and leave the slower mechs behind to fend for themselves.
