It would certainly encourage some people to actually get a veteran's pack rather than skimping out on it entirely like people have been...

Man, here I thought all the new players after the 7th were going to have to sit outside the HPG stations and pan-handle for C-Bills until they could afford some jank hovercraft or whatever. This game is now ruined for me!!1!

Looking at the Veteran package sales posted elswhere, it seems that adding a Mech to the pack would encourage people to get one. I'm pretty sure there's a large group of people who don't want to gamble $60, and find the $30 pack not worth the money.

Let's face it - the Mech is for many the most important part of the pack, as it is the only thing that gives a long-term benefit. Unless you can activate it at any time, the premium account will be used just after launch in early game, where it isn't that necessary, as everything is cheap anyway, which the C-Bills will also go for early-game purchases and probably some mistakes as one learns the game. The Founders' Mech is the only thing that stays on and keeps earning those C-bills forever.
Plus, it would also give a nice progression of 1-2-4 Mechs (Veteran-Elite-Legendary), instead of 0-1-4.

OP: the 'problem' is that the packs have been offered and sold already. You just don't change the conditions of a deal. You don't!
What may be possible is that you can upgrade from 30 to get a Founder's Mech for a small fee like 5-10 bucks, but you would really only get that and nothing else on top. The same goes for the 60 buck founders. Otherwise It would devaluate the existing deals and that simply doesn't make sense. Likewise you have to offer the 120 buck founders something similar and I'm not sure if the current offer can be beaten at all. Catch 22.

Why devaluate? You simply upgrade all existing purchases.

How do you upgrade a legendary founder's package ... exactly how?
If you want to do it right, then answer this question please.

This ^^ ;)

But no on a serious note, I do like the idea of just the one founder mech for vets, but that means all the other packs will have to be changed for the sake of changing the one which makes it unlikely, at the moment its making people pay MORE money too so take that into consideration ^^

Has anyone even mentioned any changes to legendary? Don't think so. You already get all the Mechs. One can argue that if you introduce the 1-2-4 Mech scheme, Legendary loses some bang for the buck, but this could easily be mitigated by giving the Legendary pack more in-game C-bills ($90 or $100 worth).

EDIT: @Artaire - the people who can afford an Elite pack will buy one whether it has one mech or two. Those who don't might be convinced to shell out cash for a Veteran Pack, tempted by the Founders Mech. On the other hand, there is probably a group of people who would forgo the Elite in favor of Veteran if Veteran included a Mech. It's a bit tricky to balance, but I think would be profitable in the end.

The fact that you don't account for them speaks volumes. I would be pleased not to do business with you anytime soon. You really need to learn some business manners: honor your deals and don't screw your customers over. That's how you keep them.

$120 doesn't strike me as unreasonable given what you're getting for the amount.

The $30 already gets you early access, some premium time, and some in game currency. It's already a good deal.

The major incentive to spend another $30 is to get your hands on your favorite founder's mech, but you also get more of everything mentioned above. It's also a great deal.

The $90 additional dollars gets you in the pilot seat of ALL the mechs, and more resources + a nod in the credits. For me the driving force behind this purchase is the completionist part of my brain telling me I have to have it all, and at the price it seems worth satisfying the urge.

I wont say that having more mechs getting tossed around for everyone would be a bad thing, but saying it's not fair or that the cheaper founder's options are bad buys is just silly. Compare how far $30 will get you in other F2P games or RMAH's and stop kidding yourself.

+1

$30 is nothing. These mechs need to bring in at least $30 on their own I think. I would not be surprised if the c-bill cost for standard mechs is about $15 worth and these are founders mechs plus you get other stuff.

You could just wait for the game release and buy a real-money mech if you want one that badly. [source] i can't imagine they would be more than $20, just don't buy the veteran Founder if you dont think it is worth it.

I'm buying my elite pack tomorrow. i'll get my atlas. i'll save my in game cash for buying mechs. i'll save my c-bills to buy new mechs, but $15-20 for a chasis is was over priced in my mind.

what about those people who want all the mechs? paying for every chasis is goingt o be stupidly expensive.

Mechs had better be able to buy with c-bills. i happy to pay for a premium account for each month, but to have to pay for each mechs also, makes it not a F2P at all.

You will have access to mech's

We will be detailing this to the community fairly soon, just exactly how the new player starts out in MWO

I really hope so, as i can see a point for the elite pack, but the legendary pack is just not worth it in my mind unless your a highly paid worker with little time to play.

Been stated explicitly a few times that everything that can be bought with $ can also be bought with C-Bills as well as being answered a few times in the forum, so yes.

As an aside, I'm with you; Either an Atlas or Cat as my Elite mech & the the included money to add more mechs later.
I plan on specialising with my Eite mech for a while after launch though; No good having a bazillion mechs if you've not spent enough time in any individual one to be useful.

Which is exactly my situation except for the highly paid part. I work a full time job, have a 2 month old baby and try to have a RL social life. I put aside the money to buy Elite (And then had to beg money off my wife to buy Legendary). The c-bill and xp boost I'll get will probably only keep me from being totally behind for a couple of months. After that I'll probably fall way way way behind. But that's cool. I still get to be in the credits and get to help my favorite franchise back on the electronic gaming board. Which by the way does not mean PGI it means Battletech.

No. You pay for the smallest you get the least amount available. Which in this case doesn't and shouldn't include a mech. $60 is the normal price of any game now a days that includes some sort of a decent bonus. If you can't afford the $60 you probably shouldn't be playing the game anyways, your money probably needs to go to bills.

People who tell others who "should" and "shouldn't" do something for entertainment are so cool. I wish I were this cool when I grow up.
