Two things prompted this post... 1. It struck me as I sold off a few Inner Sphere Jump Jets today that I'll never need more than two jump jets for either my Cataphract 3D or Dragon Slayer. 2. I read somewhere here on the forums of a fellow MechWarrior and their fondness for their one Jump Jet Timber Wolf. Now, I don't begrudge anyone their fun, but I'm pretty sure we have been getting mixed signals on this topic from PGI.

You have hero and champion Mechs being introduced with two jump jets out of a possible four or more. What exactly are you telling the player base when you release Mechs like that, while at the same time suggesting that jump sniping could be a problem that you would like to investigate?

Just comparing the Summoner to the Timber Wolf points out the flaws in a hurry. When it comes to the ability to jump snipe, the Summoner has five fixed Jump Jets, while the Timber Wolf is able to perform jump sniping with a single Jump Jet mounted. Doesn't this tip balance in favour of the Timber Wolf, all things considered?

You showed real courage when you introduced the Clan Mechs with strict adherence to the TT design rules and philosophe. You could do it again by making full Jump Jet allocation mandatory for all Mechs wishing to mount them. It is a minor thing that will draw tonnage and critical slots away from weapons, which, when it comes to jump sniping, cannot be a bad thing.

In all honesty, I feel badly for you when you attempt things like graduated Jump Jet thrust per combined Jump Jets and forward momentum for firing the Jump Jets, all in an effort to tone down the tactic. Just be as decisive as you were with Clan Engines, Endo Steel and Ferro-Fibrous Armour. If your Mech has the ability to mount Jump Jets, they come as a package, to the full jump jet rating. It is not as if jump sniping will end with a change like this... but it will be toned and slowed down all the same. Voila! Problem of those slight imbalances solved.

Someone on this forum once mentioned the idea to turn off the ability to fire weapons while in the air.

It's a drastic solution, but I would welcome it. IMHO, JJs should be used solely for maneuverability purposes, not as an accessory to your weapons.

Whilst I agree with the op to a point. I personally didn't pop tart at all. I only ever really pilot mechs with JJ and then usually only one or at most 2, so that when I get caught on an ankle high rock or pipe I can often tap the jump jet and get moving again (this tends to happen enough that it's worth the extra ton). I've been playing with a summoner last night and for the first time started to pop tart, this is because I have to use all the jump jets, and when most of my armour is gone and I can pop over that high ridge to get off that couple of extra shots to help win, I will.
I'd like to take some of them out, and from what I've seen so far is just about the only thing I would change with the invasion, IS mechs are still viable and have some real advantages.

OP - Do a search before creating a post. You will find countless threads to express your view, we do not need another. In addition, if you search the forums you will also find that mechs are having scaled leg damage applied which I think should be in the next patch - so poptarting will have an additional drawback. In addition, JJ heat scaling is being updated. Hope this is welcome news for you..

Thanks for your input, White. In the future, I'll take forum searching before topic posting as seriously as you seem to. As for the upcoming changes you point to, which don't go far enough and should prove similar in effectiveness to graduated Jump Jet thrust, reticule shake and forward momentum, I fail to see how either of those changes will alter the use of one or two jump jets for the jump snipers. You read my post, right? As thoroughly as warner2 did, at least? Despite what warner2 suggests above, I get that Mechs can jump and shoot... I'm 'over' it. What I don't think makes sense is being able to do it with one or two Jump Jets. ****, I jump snipe in my Cataphract 3D and Dragon Slayer, and I do it with only two Jump Jets on each chassis. It seems stupid to me, but it works fine. So, please, if the coming changes are going to deal with the one or two Jump Jet snipers, take my apologies. If we still see single Jump Jet Timber Wolfs playing peek-a-boo-I-shoot-you all game long... well... perhaps my post had merit after all.

good post, maybe this would have been better in the feature suggestion sub forum with a poll., lets hope PGI get wind of this thread and look into new ways of mounting and tuning jump jets,
