I play Battletech: Firestorm in the Tesla II pods on a semi-regular basis, with the MechCorps guys (http://www.mechcorps.com). I also volunteer at their local mobile deployments at various cons.
Full uniform, patches, pins, 1-minute training spiel.

So much fun to be had, with the regulars, and in introducing the newbs to the glory of mechanized combat!

Do you use the original training videos? ^^

Forgot 1:

This is my key chain/ Rookie Champion trophy I received back in 1997. The engraving needs to be redone so I left that out.

Ahh, Virtual World. I watched it being built from the ground up at a local mall in San Diego here. We really got into it, to say the least! Tournaments, etc. were incredible.

Good memories! Here's to hoping that the present/future tech will provide a similar experience sometime in the near future! LOVED IT!

I did once at a Dave&Buster's way back on vacation. I wish there was some near by. It was fun.

Virtual World's website: http://www.mechjock.com/
There is also a FB group page where old pilots have been reconnecting:

Darklord was in my first Master Trial. :D A lot of the other names are really familiar, I think I heard a lot of stories with them.

Dude - I have the same vulture patch in the same freakin' place. Jacket's a bit different, though.

Nice Picard pin. Never got any of the snazzy ones. Only entered one tourney, and came in second, so no special pin for me. So sad.

Semi-off-topic, the one thing I'm a bit worried about w/r/t MWO is how the devs said they wanted to reduce circle straffing. IMHO, that's what made fights so much fun...

The Airlock in Kirkland Washington has 8 tesla pods in operation, an awesome little set up. So much fun, I got the chance to play there last summer and it was a blast. If anyone gets in the area, look them up and have a great time!

Same name. I didn't meet DL until after the Center had closed.

A local arcade/fun center just closed down that had a few of those sims. If I'd thought of it sooner, I would've gone to the auction and seen if I could've picked them up! But that auction was June 2 and I just looked it up today :) That would've been so cool to play MWO in....

So how many people here have actually played in one of the simulation pods back in the old days?

I used to go down to North Pier in Chicago and play every week, mostly on Sunday's. I even helped in the beta testing back when FASA was not an MS entity. I also have a key chain with my name and rookie champion title.

I still use it to this day. The engraving needs to be redone but it's still my favorite. lol!

I played at the same BattleTech Center as you. In the early box pods. A group of us would trek up to Chicago from college (in St Louis) to play.

Wow. Wassup Darklord, not sure you remember me or not. I played Sunday nights with Manfred, Bunny, and Grimson. Callsign was Sandman.

I was at Navy bootcamp in Great Mistakes,IL(Waukgen) during the winter of 1993,but was there for my "A" school for Hospital Corpsman during the summer. I wished I had visited the navy pier to enjoy the battletech experience!
