This is a good way test the maturity levels on this forums, by reading the remarks from this thread.

I use both MAC and PC, PC is is basically used for gaming but I use the MAC for my financial security, and other task that I need to trust that that is secured.

I never had my World of Warcraft/Diablo 3 account hacked while playing on my MAC. When ever blizzard decided to release info on their so called Titan MMO that's supposed to be Halo, you can almost guarantee its gonna be playable on the MAC.

Macs aren't more secure than windows platforms. In fact they are easier to hack. There is just such a small market of them that hackers do not target them very much.

...How does your operating system have any bearing on your account security? Most attacks are either phishing or direct against the company. Mac vs. PC shouldn't enter into this.

I've always understood buying the logo. I just want to know how they rationalize the extra costs though. It has to be seen in a different light than what we see it as.

Reasons I've had include :

"It's pretty" - I'll give them that, they are gorgeous to look at.
"You don't get viruses" - Oh How I laugh when people tell me this.
"It's better built" - True in the 680x0 and PowerPC days, but they aren't designing the logic and boards themselves anymore.
"I just want to browse the internet, nothing complicated". I did a doubletake at that one, then pointed out my £350 Acer Ferrari One does that too.

A PC can be just as secure as Mac, Mac is not as immune as people think it is. If you want security, you do NOT want Windows or Apple. You want Linux.

What brand of PC do you own and what is the processor and video card? ans say the logo didnt tip the balance for you in buying the rig or the equipment.

The logo didn't, I have an AMD quad core (bought on a killer sale) and the videocard is soon to be two 550ti 's since they also went quite on sale.

I could give you all the details but it's quite the frankenstein. The one time I did get snobby about brand names was in the PSU. (But who wants to risk frying their entire rig for a few bucks savings)

I can't speak for everyone, but there are a lot of people on here who build there own desktops or have them built for them at online retailers.

You should not own a mac and really want to play games. This is on windows.

true. if you're interested in pc games and modding, anything other than a pc/windows is a waste of time and money

You know why AMD went into the processor market ? I am assuming you know this since you bought a rig a AMD?

I personally don't get the aesthetic appeal, I'm a guy who likes his laptops to look rugged, like they could be hit with a hammer and probably hit back, but that's just my opinion.

But thats just wrong, They use Intel CPU's, Nvidia GPU's and Foxconn mobo's and other various brands all of which you can get in a PC laptop or Desktop, its the same stuff, just with a nice shiny case and a huge pricetag.

I know it's hardware you can buy. I had this argument w/ a coworker of how I could BUILD a mac MUCH cheaper, and then slap the OS on it, now that they are intel based. But that doesn't change the fact that it is usually very good (I might have over stated when I said top line) hardware. The machinery is good. As to weather it's worth the $$ - that's up to the buyer.

Because they where making them on behalf of Intel, because Intel couldn't keep up with demand due to lack of FAB volume.

Your machine would also be repairable, those new macs look like a ***** to repair.

This is not quite true. Mac's are nearly as secure as most linux distro's. However, Mac makes one HUGE mistake. They don't force a new user, on install/first boot up to create a true root/admin account and a user account, then use the user account by default.

But it is true that Mac's have banked on the "security by obscurity" model for too long.

Maybe want to include they dominated the market for the motherboards and alot of the gamers respected them because of that, which is another hint why they got into the market. They did some minor work back the 70s but didn't break out till the 90s. So you didn't get a
AMD for gaming or for the name?

Right now AMD and Intel are at par, since AMD lost some rep with their processors over heating, especially n the HP laptops from the 2003-2006.

Reading reviews about the companies I saw all the fanboy arguments. I'd rather not take a side but I've seen all the legal troubles intel gets itself into and the fact that AMD was cheaper just shoved my choice home. Why buy based only on a name? Look at benchmark tests and etc... I feel like those are more reliable, or at least relevant to the specifics you want to know.

There are backdoors in the MacOs and some of the native programs that Apple just chooses to ignore (unless they have finally closed them which I don't think they have). They are hacked the fastest out of the 3 big operating systems.
