With 3/3/3/3 coming, an idea was floated on another board that I post on that I wanted to relay to here. It's not exactly a new idea (Planetside already does this) but one definitely worth exploring here.
If a certain weight class needs more people to play it, why not provide a C-Bill and/or XP incentive to play as that weight class? The amount of the bonus could be directly tied to how many players it would take to help even out the weight classes. Being stuck in a queue longer isn't really a great reason to go play as something else. People are stubborn and generally need a carrot on a stick in order to break from their established routine. However, by providing a bonus to play as something else you incentivize the process.
For instance (the following numbers are being pulled out of my ass and would obviously need to be tuned): Let's say we've got a spread of 10% Lights, 15% Mediums, 40% Heavies, and 35% Assaults. In order to bring everything back to 25/25/25/25 parity the Light category could get an earnings bonus of 15% and Mediums 10%. Again, I'm making that up just as a rough example but you get the idea.
People like being rewarded for things instead of punished. By providing that reward you end up with a much more productive system because of the "feel good" aspect of it. Would you rather sit in queue for ten minutes as an Assault or would you rather get rewarded for playing something different?

I really like this idea. Right now it's incentivized to bring as much tonnage as possible, given that there are no proper, significant rewards e.g. for capping in conquest, and you get much less cash for damage in a light as a matter of course, having less weapons. This would bring some balance back to that!

This looks like a good idea to me as well. Given that lights generally hover around 6-10%, it might be wise to give more reason to play them. Maybe even combine it with increased CBills for kills/assists on heavier mechs in lighter ones as well.
