Legging Clan Mechs

On a side note:
Inner Sphere pilots,
Most clan mechs have no ammo in there legs so it is pointless to shot them off. I was in my Summoner where I was deliberately legged by a Banshee. I had my back to him trying to finish off an Adder while this guy shot up my leg. I killed the Adder and JJ out of there before he could finish by leg off (but the landing did). My allies and I finished off the Banshee and I hobbled along to help finish off the rest of the team. My point is the Banshee could have done serious damage by going after my fully exposed rear armor. If he couldn't hit my rear there is always the arm. Most clan mechs have the majority of there weapons in there arms. IS pilots need to adapt and not resort to the same only tactics that worked a week ago.

I don't disagree with you on most of your post but I would like to touch on this. Mobility kills are important. Sometimes legging allows your team to focus fire or it will allow you to escape.

Yeah. There was this one match in Therma, I accidentally dropped into the PugZapper lava pit, found an enemy Nova skulking in there. I lured it into the lava proper, then shot its leg off. And then watch it shoot, shutdown, startup... too bad my teammates killed it fairly fast.

As for ammo in legs, I dunno, I never legged mechs for that anyway as ammo explosion chance is so low it rarely worked anyway. Shooting legs is so you make them stop running. Stop running= even the bads on your team should be able to land a hit or at least some laser spray to greatly reduce TTK.

And there is a reason a lot of good units practice legging.
Unless you are in a light, you cannot guarantee shots on the back. And your shots often get spread, on multiple torsos, front, back, arms.
Legs? Front or back, or side, the damage all goes to the same place. SO especially if you opponent has the mobility advantage? Leg them.
Only an IDIOT goes for a leg expecting an ammo explosion. You only have a 10% chance of one if you hit the ammo in the first place.

As someone else said, you die fast once you are legged, so it is never pointless.
I have noticed I am taking abnormal amounts of damage to my legs from LRMs. I keep about 50 armor per leg in my Summoner, but I am loosing Legs to Missiles rather than Arms which have less armor.

Thats a damn good point. Recently, when I have been legged it was by LRMs, no Exceptions. Usually my Nova goes up in flames because I lose the CT, sometimes when I am lucky because I lose both STs. But as soon as I get caught by LRMs, I die because both my legs go flying. My legs are nearly fully armored (only 4 points missing) so it shouldn't be that bad, but: BAM, LRMs come, Legs go.

Currently there're lots of clan mechs on the field(the most games I played 60+%).
Clan tech/mech == spread damage.
Damage spread == hitting various locations(which becomes notable when more than half of the enemy team are clanners).
So I think in their intention to hit some of your side torsos they actualy are(mostly) hitting you in the legs.
Oh and I've noticed the same about C-LRMs - they, somewhat, hit the legs quite much - when it comes to other clan mechs of course.
And yea - I know what you mean - more than the half of the games I got killed I ended up legged, but I'm quite certain most of the players don't do that on purpose - more likely it's some sort of weird game mechanics toward the clanners stuff - you know

Try to take out ct (bunch or armor and damage spread by good pilot twisting)
Know out 2 side torsos (same as above)
Orrrr knock out those legs, make immobile and cant really spread if out.
Plus, when the team sees a juicy red leg you get attn. like a steak in a lion cage.

Arms and legs can be safely shot from different angles and allies from other sides can finish it off.

BTW just an FYI because I'm sure someone doesn't know. every single clan mech has a case built into every component part, so you won't see ammo explosions.
