Factions Which Do You Despise?

The Feds are the Battletech Ultras. Squeaky clean with most of the writing expecting us to like them.
Clans because they straight up break the other Mech Warrior games and from what I hear, the tabletop game too. Lore wise because they make no sense at all. They leave the sphere, start on new worlds and still manage to sustain superior tech and manage to afford to build state of the art equipment. I mean look at the credit cost of a Timber Wolf, and they apparently poop those things out like they are ak47's (I'm exaggerating but that is what it can feel like sometimes).

You're spot on with the clans. The random space fascists are by far the dumbest thing to happen to the BT franchise.

It has less to do with lore and more to do with the fact that they're a feudal Japanese faction in a universe about giant robots that got its start by borrowing from 80s anime.
While it made sense in the 80s since giant robots were not much of a Western thing, today they come dangerously close to being a weaboo magnet .

"In 3065 they recieved orders to reinforce the defenders of Hesperus II against possible invaders, whether they might be Victor Steiner-Davion's forces or Skye rebels (at this time, the Gray Death Legion consisted of two 'Mech battalions, one tank battalion, one battle armor battalion and one aerospace wing). There, they fought alongside the 15th Lyran Guards and 36th Lyran Guards against the 4th Skye Rangers, 17th Skye Rangers and 22nd Skye Rangers. They were able to defend Defiance Industries. The victory of the Lyran forces essentially spelled the end for the rebellion, though it came at a heavy cost to the Legion. They ceased to exist as a combat command. What remained of the unit was folded into the Defiance security forces, as the highest-ranking surviving officer Daniel Brewer was also chief executive of Defiance Industries. The Defiance security forces were annihilated during the Jihad."

"In the end, the Legion successfully checked the assault, capturing the Thirty-second's commander, Leutnant-General Alice Day, when her Axman was destroyed by Captain Brewer and his lance. The loss of their commander led the Thirty-second Guards to withdraw, and the Skye Rangers were forced to follow suit. The Legion, however, had been all but obliterated themselves. Colonel Lori Kalmar-Carlyle, the Gray Death Legion's commander, was killed by Free Skye infantry after ejecting from her Victor. Less than a company of 'Mechs had survived, with other combat elements suffering even worse casualties. With most of their ranking officers killed, the Gray Death Legion, one of the most respected mercenary units in the Inner Sphere for fifty years, had effectively been destroyed, their survivors - led by Duke Daniel Brewer, Captain in the Legion and CEO of Defiance - incorporated into the HSPF."

The GDL was destroyed by Free Skye Movement forces (that is, fellow Lyrans), not Federates.

The Combine is an interesting study in paying lip service to something, as they claim honour, but are not above getting down into the mud with the Davion's when they want to win.
ComStar is.... strange... they actively suppressed tech in the IS for a few hundred years, just so they could stay ontop.

Referring to the orbital bombardment of Turtle Bay? Or something that happened later I'm unfamiliar with? ^^;
For me... I actually like all the houses/units, except The Capellan Confederation. Mostly due to Romano Liao, and Sun Tzu Liao....
Actually... I have an odd love/hate relationship with the Smoke Jaguars, too. I like who they think they are. But I hate who they actually are...
Can't speak much to Word of Blake... I only know them from a few mentions in the novels, and the Mech Assault games. But, as a rule, religious fanatics are generally pretty high on my list...
