I'm really looking for some feedback from higher level players. I'm referring to HoL, SJR, and members of the other elite units within the game. Personally, I have my thoughts on the subject, but I'm still at a level just below the elite. I see many of you in game from time to time, but rarely get to pick your brains. The following question is purely for analytical purposes, and not for advice.

If you had to pick one mech to go into a competitive match with, no tonnage limits, and you had to stick with that mech through a tournament (20+ drops across all maps), which mech do you feel provides you with the best chance to win?

That's a no brainer: Timberwolf meta sniper.

But I'm not a high level competitive player. If you want to ask SJR questions just go here:

I'm not even remotely qualified to be a high level comp player, but I'm pretty sure you've got one of two choices:

A. Dragon Slayer with 2 PPCs and 2 AC/5.

B. Mad Cat with 2 JJs, 2 CERPPC, and a CGauss.

No longer. The new king is the Timberwolf. It has too much of a mobility advantage over the Dragon Slayer. But we will have to see in the next tournament. <_<

I don't believe I'd qualify, but it's probably Victor first, Madcat next (haven't played it yet), and Cataphract last.

If tonnage limits were in order, I'd just run a Jenner... because it's the better options to allow everyone else to go big.

If you can't figure this one out on your own, chances are I'm more elite than you.

It's Dragon Slayer. The madcat doesn't compare. It's good, but nowhere near as good as a DS. Mobility isn't that helpful when you're behind a wall anyways.

If anyone worth there salt, is going to take one mech, unable to change, on more then 20 matches, they would take a balanced mech. Meta gauss/ppc is horrid on brawler/short range maps, and overall just hates life when a brawl breaks out. Its good for range/poke sniping, but sucks up close against a DPS/brawl mech.

As such a Dire/Atlas with a ballistic/LRM/energy balanced build, will fair better on a longer "fight" then one that is a meta. Reason being, he can fight on any map, on any terrain, at any range.

I have plenty of opinions on the topic, but I am honestly well aware of what the general populace feels the answer to this question is. I'm interested in the actual answers of high level comp players.

Dragon Slayer with 2 PPC, 2 AC5, all on the right side.

The Timberwolf with gauss instead of 2 AC5 is the closest to a Clan equivalent, but the only time I can see that being taken for the go-to meta choice competitively is for Clan vs IS matches. The Victor may not have as much torso agility compared to the Timberwolf, but the Victor has 1 thing that sets it apart: The lack of a gigantic CT that can be shot from nearly any direction.

If the answer is different than what the general consensus already is, then why the heck would they tell you.

AHAHAHAAHAHA. LOL @ thinking a non poptart mech would be competitive against pop tarts. MWO is all Poptart if you like winning. No other play style even comes close.

Ok... maybe I wasn't clear enough here...

As much as I value everyone's right to express their opinion, I'm really only interested in the opinions of members of HoL, SJR, 228, etc.

This is for players who compete at the highest level of the game.

It'd be a Timberwolf with 2xERPPC/1xGauss. A Dragon Slayer would have the advantage in some situations but for the most general, a Timberwolf would be best.

Also no, you would never take a Dire Wolf or an Atlas. Ever. That's just dumb.

Have to agree with Adiuvo. Me personally I'd take a Shadowhawk because th at what I've had most experience in during matches. 3D would next followed by Jenner F

>MFW halfway through the tournament PGI finally puts in the thrust nerf, and TW with 1 JJ isn't able to lift more than 5 meters off the ground anymore.

>MFW the one guy who was crazy enough to choose a 12ERSL-4MG nova rolls the entire enemy team because poptarts can't pop.
