Yes. This means YOU.

Since the Clan Patch on the 17th I have noticed an alarming increase of friendly fire. Backs shot, arms nailed, etc. At first I was getting really pissed, as I assumed it was the usual killwhoring stat-grabbing crap and people just had more guns now to shoot wildly into any scrum with.

Then I noticed even my own Clan Mates, most of whom are at least competent, also were doing it. (Of course, if it were THIS account, I would just figure it was more of my "fans" taking their shots the only way they can :( ).

Then common sense kicked in. Almost all Clan MEchs are really really wide. With tons of guns stuck in wide spread, low slung arms. Most people are used to having much narrower firing profiles, and honestly aren't aware that shots they could take in their Jager or Catapult are hitting people in the back.

So when you are all huddles together, pressing to take potshots into the DerpRing? Be aware of your surroundings, and kindly check your fire lanes. If I walk into it, well that is my fault (though if you haven't pulled your trigger yet, refraining from so doing and telling me via chat to move, would be a kindness.), but blowing your teammates arm or torso out doesn't do anything to help your team win.

Thank You Kindly.

This PSA has been brought to you courtesy House Steiner, Clan Ghost Bear and the Council to Avoid Shooting Your Own Team.

1. Add a lot of mechs that are fat
2. Make those fat mechs have low-mounted weapons
3. Give those mechs weapons that take longer to fully fire due to beam duration and/or burst
4. ???
5. Profit! Team damage!

Already the Clans have been foiled by FedCom superior tactics and war making! Since you arrived in the Inner Sphere, we have secretly been swapping the hydrogen in your fusion engines for heavier elements, causing your Mechs to gain unnecessary mass and making their arms spread further apart! We’ll barely even have to fight you as you rip each other to shreds with friendly fire! (Though this plan was put into action before my report on the ‘Alien Invasion’ was given…..in hindsight it’s a terrible plan as there’s as many Clan against us as with us and we’re just as exposed to the blue on blue….The bl**dy Stealthy Foxes in MI4 screwed this one up royally…)

No matter, the second part of this plan shall still succeed. In contrast to what we’ve done to Clan Mechs, we’ve regulated our Battlemechs to a diet of hydrogen enriched spinach! The tonnage they’ve lost has been replaced by pure muscle, my personal Jaegarmech has lost .04mm off its sides already! When FedCom and the Clans finally meet head on, Clan Mechs will be unable to engage without damaging each other whereas ranks of AFFS Mechs will fire volleys effortlessly past each other and consistently smash the encroaching Clans, their wide Mechs making easy targets for Davion ballistics!

Its the longer beam and AC durations. Clan guns just keep spewing forth long after they lose LOS.

Yep, I noticed. Clan mechs usually have to get far more exposed than inner sphere mechs to do their thing, and stay there longer. And being wider and fatter also means LRMs love them. And hey, running AMS is such a bother in most clan mechs, too.

Might be why my Founder's Catapult is feasting since the clans arrived..... though my nuttiness of using my quad laser array after I run out of ammo against Dire Wolves, Timber Wolves and all sorts of clanners and spheroids has granted me easily half of the kills. :(

I've also noticed an up-tick of morons walking in front of you while you're actively engaged in combat with an enemy mech. As if to say "Hey guy! Whatcha shootin' at over there? Mind if I stand right here in front of you and take a look? Oh, did you want to hit that guy with ALL of the burn of your lasers? Sorry bro, my backside had to take some of that for ya."

So the positioning stuff goes both ways. I'll watch where I jam my arm if you watch where you park your butt.

I've decided from today forward to go with a weapons free policy of people that block the fire lanes...

I've noticed A LOT of this lately.

It's not even that I'm only facing my target, it's when I'm already firing on it! I'm pouring laser fire from my Nova into one of the bad guys and one of my own team wanders into the beam and soaks half the damage. The pretty yellow beams are not a light show in a night club, plz stop trying to dance in them.

From my observations, it's mostly Twolfs doing this.

I have also noticed an uptick in people trying to fire THROUGH me, in addition to people who are pinning you when you step out from behind cover by taking your spot for you and keeping it warm while you shoot. The issue is, they want to keep your spot! The nerve?!

I would just like to say, at least one player may have learned a lesson last night...I was driving a 4xUAC10 DW last night, and he stepped in front of me WHILE I WAS FIRING and lost a side torso because a Double Tap of 4 UAC10s is a LOT of damage...

Anyone feel like this is spaceballs? "I said across her nose not up it!? Who made that man a gunner?!"

...wait for it...

"Keep firing @$$holes!"

While there be truth to this also, it still misses the point. Idiots will be idiots. But many people are unaware (or possibly idiots and don't care) about how wide Omnis are. Constantly blocking crap up, and wondering why half their pretty lazors aren't shooting across the screen. (Hint, they are hitting my back).

You see, another side of your coin is this: I took the lead, I am and have been out in front, using cover, to step out and fire, drop back , and repeat (aka, being smart). You come up behind, and just set up shop, and next time I step out of cover get cored in my back. If you want the fire lane, take the lead. Yes, you have the derp who surges past and goes in front, but that is yet another story. And just as bad, is if you are the derp who parks behind me when I am taking shots , and then when I go to drop back, are blocking me so I get to eat enemy fire.

Here's a thought: Smart players don't step up, and just STAND out in the open. We are going to take our shots, and drop back to cover, unless we are shifting to a whole new position. Well, how are you supposed to know if I am doing one or the other, you say? Well here's a great idea: Don't clump up into the next guys hip pocket, regardless. Leave a good bit of space between you and your teammates. And if you want to take a shot, and the shooting lane is already well covered, find a different shooting lane. 10 people clumped up outside the entrance to the Derp Ring of Mordor can't effectively lay down fire anyhow. All you do is get in each other's way. So if the group isn't going to actually push in (hint: 95% of the time, they won't), take your little group and flank a different entrance.

well, since 90% of Clan Mechs in any game seem to be TWolves (followed by DireWhales) that is probably a fair assessment....

It took me a few days to adjust to laser burn time. It's really different. What I've experienced more of in the last couple days is getting hit in the back with friendly gauss rounds. I think a lot of people are finally learning to use the gauss rifle because it's the only ballistic PPFLD on the clan side.
