As a frequent Spider driver, go for the legs. As far as which weapons scare me off, LBX and streaks. Anything else, a reasonably competent Spider driver isn't too worried about. Granted I will sometimes get one-shotted by dual AC20s or dual Gauss, but that happens so infrequently, I'm not worried about it. (Maybe once every hundred drops.)

Just remember to back up against a wall or building, and the Spider (or other offending light) will usually leave you in search of easier pickings.

I usually use a newspaper, or a shoe.

Seriously, though - LEGS LEGS LEGS! Don't bother with the torsos unless they're already on internal structure there, or you're a really good shot.

I'll usually take this one step further, plinking off a leg and then just letting them hobble around for a little bit. I try to take off that right arm, too.

LRMs take a fair bit of skill given all counters the least of which being the speed of a light mech, where they simply out run them. Streaks suffer from being ecmable and you still need to follow the ****** long enough to get a lock and not fire into the landscape.

I would also like to have melee combat, the tactic of cuddling an atlas to screw with it's fire arcs would come to a bloody dismembered end.

As a spider pilot loadouts don't phase me, pilots do. Can't tell you how many times a streak kto18 driver got target fixated on me only to have his shoulder blown out.

Yesterday, caught a drop against mexicutioner and he burned my chest armor out early while lining up a strike in his ryoken. Didn't die and we still managed to win but my role was strongly diminished in that match from that one well placed alpha

In any case why the concern? Most of the really good spider drivers have moved on to the much easier to kill fs9 chassis.

Most of the scrubs you see in them now are wasting the chassis with single ppcs and tag

Throwing a handful of SRMs at the feet of light mechs has been working rather well for me lately.

My target areas for lights, and the places I don't want people to shoot at when I drive these:

Spider: Legs, easiest part to hit consistently
Firestarter: Legs, torsos have excellent hitboxes for spreading damage, legs are weakest hitbox
Commando: Torso, legs are tiny and hard to hit, toros area is much larger
Jenner: Torso, it is a walking CT and hard to miss
Raven: Legs, hitboxes are bigger than the leg models
Locust: Legs, super fragile all over but legs are big and easy to hit
Kit Fox: Torso, same as Jenner, has a big snout
Adder: Torso? haven't seen enough of these to develop a solid strategy

Spiders are invincible to CERPPC's at ranges under 100m

if you are lucky, the hit will register, but won't do any damage at all

As stated previously:

On a spider your best option is legs. There is a HSR deadzone in the front abdomen area where shots to the low center mass won't register. Aiming at the leg you have the best chance to wing it, and make it much easier to take out while it hobbles around.

Someone else also gave the aiming tip to lead the front most arm and to wait for those moments when the spider runs directly at you.

I'd also give a hat tip to the clay shooter because his advice on aiming at them in the air is spot on. They hover for a fraction of a second at the apex of their jump, making them easier to hit if you're tracking them.

Yeah, look, an Atlas takes time and effort to kill, as does a Timberwolf of Cataphract. Just because you see a light, and think to yourself "oh look, so little armour, easy kill!" does not mean it will be actually easy to kill. That Spider is piloted by a human player who is every bit as skilled as you are, every bit trying to win as you are. He will likely be able to avoid fire, deliver damage, take damage, and generally fight as well as any other mech on the battlefield. To assume you will kill it quick because you are in a bigger/stronger mech is folly. Treat it as you would an Atlas, it takes time and effort to take down.

Aim for the legs. Yes, taking out the legs will take more than one pass; but shooting for the torso is wasted damage, since the darned' things hardly ever die from a torso loss. One lost leg is all it takes, and the Spider is effectively done for.
