Just curious as to what you all view as ideal unit compositions in 3049 ~ 3050.

Here is mine:

Star 1:
- Timber Wolf (Personal ride)
- Timber Wolf
- Hellbringer
- Summoner
- Ice Ferret

Star 2:
- Ice Ferret
- Adder
- Adder
- Adder
- Adder

Star 3:
- Executioner
- Gargoyle
- Timber Wolf
- Timber Wolf
- Ice Ferret

The setup is rather simple, all units have atleast one mech with a Active Probe to detect any hidden units.

Star 1 is a Heavy Star with a jump capable Summoner and a Hellbringer to bring extra electronic equipment to the field. The Ice Ferret is included to flush out hidden units and pursue any that units that try to escape.

Star 2 is a Light Star with the pure function of quickly finding any and all opponents and engage them at range. Again, the Ice Ferret has the most speed + a Active Probe.

Star 3 a Assault Star designed for speed. The Executioner is much faster then the sluggish Dire Wolf, it also mounts jumpjets and MASC to outmanoeuvre any and all opposition. The Gargoyle and the the Timber Wolves are present to hammer away at any mechs they might encounter. Once again a Ice Ferret is included for the reasons mentioned above.

Jus my idea of a ideal trinary.

Any other takers?

Star 1 (Command star, specializes in mobile fire support and long-range combat):
1. Adder Prime (My 'Mech). I just love this thing - two ER PPCs, god-like accuracy, decent speed and armor - all in a light
2. Timber Wolf "Pryde" variant (Two LRM-20s, two ER Large lasers, two ER Mediums, an ER Small, and jump jets) - great long-range firepower and mobility from those jump jets, and I don't mind the loss of short-range firepower too much due to this star's purpose
3. Gargoyle Alternate A. Great long range firepower from those PPCs and (occasionaly) the large pulse, and it's still able to defend itself close in. Oh, and it's an assault that can match my Adder for speed (without MASC!), which is pretty awesome
4. Hellbringer Alternate A. Lots of long-range firepower, a NARC beacon to increase missile accuracy, and an Active Probe to detect threats coming in. What's not to like?
5. Mad Dog Prime. Don't even need a variant - this 'Mech is great for fire support as-is.

Star 2 (Recon/Striker star. Has lots of speed, and is capable of doing damage at any range.)
1. Ice Ferret Prime. The star's primary scout. Plenty of speed and decent firepower at long range
2. Fire Moth Prime. Blazing fast and heavy short-range weaponry - perfect for hit-and run attacks
3. Kit Fox Prime. Unfortunately the slowest 'Mech in the star (Elementals notwithstanding), but it makes up for that by providing fire support for the rest of the star. Besides, it still isn't exactly slow
4. Viper Alternate D. Jack-of-all-trades, able to do damage at any range.
5. Five Elementals. About the best thing ever for guerrila warfare - sneaky, able to take down an assault given enough skill and time, and they are pure psychological warfare since most warriors flip out as soon as they see Elementals jetting in.

Star 3 (Assault star, specializing primarily in close combat with some long-range firepower for when they are closing in)
1. Warhawk Alternate C. Long range, deadly accurate firepower - it's the ranged support for the star
2. Executioner Alternate A. This variant is a pure brawler no real long-range firepower to speak of. Good thing it's got the Warhawk C covering it... On the upside, it's devastating once it closes. I thought about using a C variant instead, but decided this had a more rounded loadout
3. Dire Wolf "Widowmaker" variant (the set-up used by Natasha Kerensky - 2 ER PPCs, 2 Large Pulse lasers, 3 ER mediums, an ER small, and an Ultra AC/20). Able to do heavy damage no matter what the range - this is the star's workhorse
4. Executioner Alternate D. Yet another brawler. A huge bevy of pulse lasers and two SRM-6s will tear apart just about anything - provided the 'Mech doesn't overheat.
5. Dire Wolf Alternate S. A third pure close-combat 'Mech for this star. An LBX-20 is put in with a large pulse, five medium pulses, and a pair of SSRM-4s. For anti-infantry work, it has AP Pods and a pair of Machine guns; finally, it mounts a trio of jump jets for added maneuverability.

*Edit* Put in the reasons I picked the 'Mechs that I did

Ideal invasion set up for me would be:

Alpha Command:
1. Nova A - have won tournaments with this, is a monster in the right hands.
2. Stormcrow C - cluster combined with direct damage, a good mix on a fast platform.
3. Hellbringer Prime - sensors, ecm, and a godlike PPC aim, whats not to like.
4. Summoner C - bringing UAC20 power in a mobile format.
5. Mad Dog A - the wildcard, but you will find little that matches its damage on good round of rolls.

Beta Striker
1. Stormcrow Prime - great use of 55 tons, lasers lasers and more lasers
2. Viper B - Jump 8, lol
3. Shadowcat B - Active Probe, ECM, MASC, good jump, respectable loadout, can't complain for 45 tons
4. Nova Prime - Lightshow baby
5. Hunchback IIC - Because it's such a Jaguar thing to use

Charlie Assault
1. Stone Rhino - LPL's and Gauss, with godlike armour and jumpjets, can't complain.
2. Warhawk C - More accurate and heat efficient than the prime.
3. Dire Wolf A - I'm SJ, it can't be helped. 3 LPL's + Gauss + crit seeking SSRMs, with enough heat to alpha every turn.
4. Madcat A - Gotta have one in somewhere.
5. Rifleman IIC - AA cover, and BAP

Recon:
Ice Ferret Prime
Ice Ferret Prime
Mist Lynx B
Mist Lynx C
Fire Moth B

All are fast and carry either an active probe or ECM, perfect for scouting or disrupting as needed. Can easily be converted into a nova for quick transport of an Elemental star.

Striker:
Stormcrow Prime
Stormcrow C
Mad Dog Prime
Gargoyle C
Timber Wolf C

Moves fast and hits hard, can't complain about that!

Assault:
Warhawk C
Kingfisher C
Kingfisher Prime
Dire Wolf A
Dire Wolf Prime

When you absolutely, positively have to kill every savashri in the room... accept no substitutes.

My ideal Trinary?

Caught unaware, pilots exhausted after being pursued to the Periphery by us freebirth scum. Outnumbered, overmatched, and run ragged.

I'll also take a star of assault mechs as tribute as you surrender, thank you very much.

Thankfully none of that is here, and hopefully will never arrive. Too much of a game breaker.

Thank you for the lack of contribution. Next time try again harder surat scum scrapped off my boot.

Your whole 4 posts are even more amusing, considering I went and looked at them. You are a old man, get off the field before a stray missile makes your feeble brain unable to attain proper balance for your mech and you break your hip during the fall of your mech, I know the Inner Sphere makes your command couches comfortable, but is that padding enough for your old bones, quineg?

I am still deciding my Invasion force though, so I will post it later.

Seeing as how I am a Warden (Exiled Wolf) and and proclaim the defense of the ARDC, I shall provide the layout of my trinary. We are part of Omega Galaxy. Though a bit unorthodox, you will have to forgive our addition of ominifighters. Thus is the will of Khan Kell

Alpha Star- primarily an indirect fire support Star.
1. TimberWolf Custom (Personal trade mguns for er small lasers)
2.Maddog Prime
3. Maddog Prime
4.TImberWolf Prime

Beta Star- primarily energy-based sniping unit, but also well-versed in close combat.
1. Nova A
2. TimberWolf D
3. Warhawk C
4. TimberWolf D
5. Dire Wolf C

Charlie Star (Aerowing)- strafing runs and air superiority to cover my ground units.

Dare not refer to use as "Bandit Caste". We expect to be persecuted by our crusader brethren. Bring what forces necessary to defeat us.

I would mix my trinary with some elementals.

1. Star

Ice Ferret
Stormcrow
Stormcrow
Shadow Cat
5 Elementals

2.
Fire Moth
Fire Moth
10 Elementals
Adder

3.

Summoner
Hellbringer
Hellbringer
Mad Dog
5 Elementals

It would be a realy fast Support Unit which can outflank anything and still has the punsh to support other trinarys.

The problem is that being Clan Mechwarriors allows us to pilot whichever omnimech suits the style of the mission Quiaff? Though it would be very true to the canon I cannot see the inner sphere surats letting the developers from Clan Piranha give us this kind of flexibility.

That said, I am sure that if we are allowed the basic chassis then arguing for them to be mission conformable would be a good compromise. Trying to achieve game balance will be hard but given the relative cheapness and availability of IS tech this may be viable.

The force I run when I play CBT goes like this:

Clan Ice Hellion
Delta Galaxy
1st Hellion Highlanders Cluster

Command Trinary:

Linebacker D
Gargoyle Prime
Executioner custom (D-variant RA, Gauss Rifle LA)
Executioner Prime
Pouncer Prime

Mad Dog C
Mad Dog Prime
Glass Spider 1
Viper 4
Phantom D

Ice Ferret Prime
Dragonfly B
Kit Fox E
Arctic Cheetah ("Hankyu") H
Grendel D

Sadly, as I've never had an entire weekend to devote to a game they've never been deployed as a unified force. ;)
