I'm not sure if it was mine; but if it was, I have three ERPPCs in there. I call it Jovian Bolt. It's mainly for fooling around and being able to call out "Double goose... JOVIAN BOLT!!" when I fire everything.

ETA: Though admittedly, I might change out the Gauss for UAC/10s; an interesting side effect of the CT fix is that I'm dying more to both Gauss exploding than to centerlining.

Actually, after seeing that build above, I think it was that. Because I went from 100% health to dead immediately, and I don't skimp armor on my Wolverine. Not the most fun I've had in a game.

PPCs have a 4s recycle time. Gauss has a 4.75+s recycle time. 4xGauss will therefore work only marginally faster than 2xGauss+2xPPC, while removing the ability to reliably put the entire alpha on one location.

This is, of course, disregarding the useless armor and ammo values, and how easy it is to criple mechs with torso Gauss.

Now the only thing you need to explain is what reload time has to do with projectile speed

The difference in projectile speed is exactly why it is difficult to put the pin point damage in one location... It basically only works if your target is a.) not moving or b.) you're so close, that the targets relative speed to the projectile speed is negligible.

Edit:
I think correct English would be to say "velocity" here and not "speed", but pardon me, I am no native speaker.

People are thinking small TBH.

HERE'S a real hurt machine. You can remove the Targeting computer, and have 3 slots and 3 tons for more ammo/armor.

41 on the back armor? Do people generally put that much on the back?

I have 20/20/20 on my Warhawk's back.

Completely remove both Targeting Computers as Gauss Rifles do not benefit from them at all. The only items that benefit are Lasers, ACs/UACs, and PPCs.

No, even 20 is too much

Putting Gauss and PPC shots on one location is hard, but doable. Putting 2 separate salvos on one location is much harder. 2xCGauss+2xCERPPC gives you a chance to try more often. Also, you very often fight at close distances (half the optimal range of either weapon) where the projectiles converge very well.

10 armor on the side is generally where you start from. This may be a problem on the Dire Whale, though, since the thing does not appear to twist. You may need more if not grouping up with people who can protect your back.

I got my basics done on two of my Direwolves with this build.

I'm sure it's been linked already in this thread but I found it really easy to land all the gauss shots in the same place with the adv zoom module. I had the left/right arm gauss on fire chain 1/2 and the torso ones on 3 so I could just hold down both mouse buttons for the first volley and immediately hold down one of the thumb buttons for the torso volley. It tended to wreck people hard.

I did the basics on the third Direwolf with this other build.

It also tends to wreck people.

Both "velocity" and "speed" are correct here, though "velocity" is more precise - as illustrated in Modo's post you're quoting. What he means by "speed" is the rate at which the 'mech can deal damage, not the velocity of the rounds. This is what the charge and recycle time of the Gauss had to do with "speed" in his post. There is also (as he points out later) a huge difference in the two builds' respective abilities to put an alpha on target - because a Gauss/PPC combo can alpha, and a 4xGauss setup cannot.

Dire Nova

More 'frankenmech' than the more meta-friendly Dual Gauss/PPC builds, but I tend to try and stay with the herd, so a more support-ish build is more my cup of tea.

I put 12/14/12 on my rear armor. I just clicked max armor to put the weight in.
