its hilarious that there are so many things in this game that run counter to the "battletech atmosphere", yet you are complaining about peoples names.

Don't worry, I do complain about all the other issues as well.

The only reason I give a damn about anyone else's name is so that I know who I just killed. "HugeErectileDysfunction" offends me no more or less than seeing 4.7 million "XXXX Pryde" or "YYYYY Davion-Kahn".

Want immersion? Get together with your friends and play on a tabletop. I'm here to melt your face with lasers, not help you create some incredibly deep experience.

Exactly what I said. People are not looking for background or atmosphere, it's all about ass kicking and pew pew/dakka dakka. and the game delivers just that. It's ok with me, I can keep my disdain of certain names to myself. I am not voting for names to be put down here. It's just us old RPG age fossils, that get a tear in the eye when the online youth (regardless of age) stomps us wearing names like presented here and laughing about them. maybe I am just a bit sour, sorry folks. If that's your generations or this age's definition of fun, well, have fun. It's a game after all.

That one is a play on Clay Aiken. It's not too late to retract your endorsement.

Maybe we should all name ourselves after flowers and instead of shooting each other we dance in a circle singing 60's and 70's songs minus the drug references. We could also all sit on our yoga mats and compliment each other on our wonderful mech colors. Make peace not war my brothers!

Give me a frickin break. The OP had to of made this thread to stir things up

Have you seen call signs and nicknames used by real military personnel?

This.

While I admit that it may not be immersive to see names with xXYourNameHereXx or most of the ones with numbers, I don't see anything wrong with most names and call signs.

On the plus side, at least we get to pick them ourselves. Most real military call signs are either unit based or earned, depending on the situation you're in and channel you're on. I was in a patrol boat unit and believe me, if you earn your call sign wrong way, you'll get to hear your embarrassing story over an over every time a new guy asks why you get called something. We made sure of it! It was all in good fun, though. And in good lesson learning.

MWO is based on an incredibly rich and compelling universe. A game where honor and strength of character supposed to matter. A game where atmosphere is entirely ruined by the most asinine names of about 50% of the player base. I am not naming the actual players - this is not "name and shame" post. I modified moron-names I am about to mention. But the mood of MW game is totally ruined when I see another idiot with name like PuffBongAllDay, LRMDUDE1980, tyrebrandUSA, killstealmonkey etc... Can you please just give us all random names generated to sound like something that might actually exits in Battletech Universe?

When then Odinvolk is definitely out.

So now what do you do?

I only care about the Devs getting CW up and running, and as long as "Love Removal Machine" isn't a team killer or total waste I don't care. Besides - seeing Explosive Diarrhea killed Lactose The Intolerant or Flying Beer Can killed Hungry Hungry Hobo is funny as hell.
Actually - "Love Removal Machine" is a great name now that I think about it.

Back in the day, when playing Black Hawk Down, a buddy of mine used to use various names like ****** Bleeding and such. "****** Bleeding has killed XYZ." It was pretty humorous. Anyway, I was thinking about the names thing too the other day. Given that it's sometimes hard to get a name after a game's been out a while, people just use whatever. I appreciate when there's thought put into them and my lance mate and I laugh about the good ones. Sure, it'd be nice if everyone wanted to use a neat, real-sounding name, but it doesn't really ruin immersion for me that they don't.

Yes and it's Fictional so stop being a fascist caring so much for what everyone else does, just play and don't give a ****. People who act this way caring so much and yelling like a self entitled nanny is what is wrong with our society

I just think of them as Call Signs or nicknames. For example I have a friend we all call Sponge Bob and if we were fighter pilots, I can guarantee his call sign would still be Sponge Bob. Stupid for sure but it is a name he earned so it suck hehe.

In any case, I imagine the stupid names I see in the game are something like this situation and just go with it.
