Meaning Myndo Waterly, the primus of Comstar at the time of the clan invasion in 3049.

Here's a couple of quotes from the books, for your enjoyment :D (there's just something special in how dumb and oblivious Waterly is)

"Primus, I have taken to calling this model the Mad Cat. As with the Catapult 'Mech, the machine boasts two longrange missile pods, one on each side of the forward-thrust torso. It walks on bird's legs, which gives it a hopping-bobbing gait, though this pilot seems to have been able to conquer that tendency. Quite an achievement, with the low gravity on the asteroid. In addition to the standard Catapult features, two Marauder-type weapons pods have been added. They have large lasers over medium lasers. Two more medium lasers, one on each side of the torso and two machine guns mounted in the center torso, round out the weapons selection. Yes, a most impressive machine."

Indeed. With an army of such 'Mechs, we could make Blake's dream of a united humanity a reality in short order. Myndo stared through the image at Focht. "I shall order our armorers to modify our existing Catapults to this configuration."

Anger creased the Precentor Martial's brow for an instant, then disappeared as if banished by the force of his will. "I am afraid that is not possible, Primus. As you saw in the battletape, Phelan Kell attacked the machine but failed to damage it. Were we to create a 'Mech with such an array of weapons, we would be unable to armor it sufficiently. On the other hand, if we gave it the armor it needed, the 'Mech would be unable to move because of the current power-to-weight ratios available in our fusion engines. In short, either this 'Mech has incredibly light but durable armor, or it has a power plant of a design surpassing anything we have to offer."

Myndo's mouth went sour. New technology in the hands of someone other than ComStar! "That's terrible!"

Obviously pursuing her own agenda, the Primus pressed on with that line of thought. "You can't let the defeat at Luthien cripple this strategy of yours. I can provide all the information you need, and with Phelan's help, your next target should fall easily."
"Next target?" To Phelan's eyes, Ulric, Natasha, and the Precentor Martial were as ignorant of her meaning as he was.
"Yes, the plan is so simple and daring that it cannot fail." Myndo smiled with the confidence of one divinely inspired. "I say, ilKhan, that we move now and strike at Tharkad!"
"Tharkad?" The panic in the Precentor Martial's voice doubled the dread gathering in Phelan's heart. "The capital of the Lyran Commonwealth. That Tharkad?"
Myndo fixed Focht with a look of surprise. "Of course, that Tharkad. What other?" She looked at Ulric. "You have the force to take it. With Phelan's knowledge of the world from his time at the Nagelring, and with the Precentor Martial's help, it should be far easier to take than the attempt on Luthien."
Ulric's face wore a look of amusement. "An interesting proposition, to be sure, but I am afraid it is not possible, Primus."
She smiled confidently. "Believe me, ilKhan, you have the troops and experience necessary to take Tharkad."
Ulric nodded. "Oh, I believe you, but taking Tharkad would deflect us from our goal and that I cannot allow to happen."
The Primus frowned and shot a quick, reproving glance at the Precentor Martial. "Your goal?"
"You did not know?" Ulric feigned great surprise while the Precentor Martial's expression changed to pure puzzlement. "You truly do not know?"
The Primus shook her head. "I do not."
A predatory smile flashed across Ulric's face at Myndo's petulant tone. "Our goal is the conquest of Terra, my dear Primus. It was once the seat of the Star League, and it will belong to the Star League again. This is our will, our goal, and no one in the Inner Sphere can stop us from achieving it."

Every single one of the Comstar Primus up until 3052, except Jerome Blake, were idiots. Nothing but apocalyptic fetishists, like certain Christian cult leaders.

quotes are from Lethal Heritage and Blood Legacy btw - well worth the read given MWO's current time frame.

I agree with the OP. Primus Waterly isn't an idiot. Bat poop crazy is different.

do not defame the name of poop by uttering her name and poop in the same sentence.

remember this was all written to be dramatic and "revive" BT.

on a side not, aren't all religious leaders a bit dumb?

Waterly's biggest problem is she broke the cardinal (ha! pun!) rule of ComStar - Always, ALWAYS play for the long game. She honestly and stupidly believed she could bring about ComStar's glorious victory in her lifetime, leading her to make lots of stupid short term decisions that easily turned against her. In Lethal Heritage she correctly predictions ComStar's future fate, but rather than play for the long term she favored the desperate hail mary pass of Operation Scorpion, which of course failed and made things even worse.

Word of Blake also followed the same trend, which is why rather than take a stress pill and taking a moment to think about it, they started thumping the "Nuke everybody" button until it broke.
