I have been playing the Adder and many variations with the omini pods.... But I still find that as a light mech it isn't that good of a mech.

What's your view on the Adder guys?

Love it. The Prime is pretty much spot-on as it is. I've dropped the targeting computer in favor of more heat-sinks, and that made it far more useful. I slapped a pair of large lasers and SSRM6's on the D, and downgraded the 20's for 15's on the A. Seems to work spendidly for me.

As a light mech you really feel that the Adder is useful? I just don't see it.

As a clan light mech, sure. Against Inner Sphere light mechs, no. I've had to retrain myself how to pilot it as a result. It just doesn't have the speed to keep up with Ravens and Spiders, but it does have the firepower. I play it like a medium escort, and never go roaming without support nearby.

The thing that leads me to my orginal question was that when I play the kit fox.. I have a better mech that out performs the adder on every level... which lead me to what is the point of the adder.

My guestimation is that the Adder is more of a ranged support mech than the Kit Fox, given the natural builds with LRMs and ER-PPCs. I'll be honest, though, in that I haven't dropped in the Kit Fox yet.

I've been unable to make it work either. Seems to be a glass cannon that isn't much of a cannon.

LRM30 or 2ERPPC. Both pretty solid cannons.

I'm a big fan of the CDA-3M. The Adder is more like that than an IS mech. It's probably not competitive but it's my fave clan mech so far.

The Kit Fox with ECM and JJ has a lot going for it, too, but for both of them: they're not IS lights, you have to drive them much differently.

And that, there, is the key point. The clan lights will never function like Inner Sphere lights (at least, not until PGI really decides to mix things up with a MASC clanner or something). Trying to lone-wolf with them is suicide, as a stock Jenner will run circles around you and laugh the whole time.

How are you using it, what are you expecting of a light mech? If you are expecting it to run around at lightning speeds and speed tank assaults then you are going to be highly dissapointed. If you are expecting it to kill other lights, scout ahead and give support to the rest of the team, then you should enjoy it. Also as a super light flanking mech its unparralled. Being able to bring an uac20 and 3 er small to a fight and be heat efficient without armor skimping is pretty damn strong when you catch a mech from behind.

Don't get me wrong... I enjoy all the weapons variations for the adder... but I just can't define any role that the Kit fox can't do better and was hoping that some others out there might have found a good role for it. If not.. then I don't recommend the adder as a mech.

What builds are you using for the Kit Fox and Adder? Can you give us some examples?

It has additional heat and weight capacity vs. the Kit Fox, but, no, objectively, you're right. That doesn't cover the lack of ECM&JJ.

It's an inferior mech in all the ways that matter, as this thread has kindly pointed out. I encourage you to field it as frequently as possible.

I kind of like the implementation of the clan lights. They're actually support and recon mechs, not 150kph gunboats that rip apart assaults.

As long as 4x3 is not here, you are better off playing as the Stormcrow over the Adder. It is simply superior.
