In games like battlefield, Red Orchestra, etc. the veteran players didn't matter as much because the core mechanics were easy and fun. I can navigate menus in other games without having to watch a ******* two-part youtube video first.
I'll never get used to playing something I outright don't like, just because I was foolish enough to spend money on it.
Right now I'm sitting on the forums instead of playing the game, browsing the vast amounts of "L2P" posts.
I haven't seen as many japanophiles here as I have in other games, though. Thank god.
Mechanically, most FPS shooters are similar. Playing Doom 1 vs whatever the current shooter of 2014 is probably the same in terms of killing something.
This is more like driving a tank...positioning matters more than pure twitch skills. Most people probably have more experience playing a regular FPS vs tank games, so other games are easier to jump into.
Also, I have a hard time believing that this game has a worse community than a commercially successful game like Battlefield.

It is nothing like driving a tank, and certainly lacks the depth of any tank game.
It is a soft-target HP number's game. Every shot within range does damage, and your HP goes down. "Armor" just means increased HP, not really armor. They might as well call it "health".
It's more like CoD, but with less maps and game modes.

So what you're saying is the game is closer to being an infantryman than the driver of a tank? That's the story you're sticking to?

Reflexes are high value in a game like this.

But considering just typing leaves a dull, burning pain in both hands, yeah, gaming definitely pushes the limits for this guy.
Sorry to hear that man.

I dunno what rehab services you've used up to this point, but one of my coworkers rides motorcycles and has wrecked his body numerous times. He's used a place called Jansen and Jansen, and he's sung their praises. They use a technique called ART, or Active Release Therapy. Give it a look-up if you haven't already. Hope that helps, man.
Just be forewarned: the therapy hurts like hell.

MWO felt like Team Fortress 2 for me for the longest time. Especially seeing those 35 tons of metal zooming and jumping around like the Scout.

Yeah, perhaps I'll give Mechwarrior Tactics a try , when it comes out. No need for reflexes there.

Well if you can't specifically find Jansen and Jansen, there may be another physical therapy / rehab facility in your area that uses the same ART technique.
I know the pain of lingering injuries, from having damaged my knees, my right elbow, surgery on my big toe. Only people who have never suffered severe injuries think that joints and body parts just heal back to 100% like new again. I know the healing process often involves lots of pain, numbness, aching, tingly sensations, etc. Good days, bad days, days when the weather changes and the joints hurts, etc.

exactly. One Reason I moved to the tropics. Hot and humid, salt air, much better on the joints and soft tissue. And constant salt water immersion. And the best painkiller known to man, tequila.
Much worse on my computer. Gonna put this "military grade" motherboard to the test!

I could feel worse though. If we went out to the rifle range I could show some of the top mwo 'snipers' what's up when it comes to grouping AR-15 shots at 100+ meters with iron sights. Got a chance to shoot the AK-47, AK-103, and Dragunov rifles at a range here in Moscow a month ago. Thumbs up to the Dragunov, big thumbs down to the AK-47 and AK-103. Even at 20 meters those things put rounds all over the place. The Dragunov was nice though. More than a bit heavy, but at least the bullets go where you aim.
So yeah, I just went from talking about the limitations of being older to comparing the merits of various assault rifles.

mwo doesn't rely on reflexes, it relies on proper placement and strategy. If you cannot get the crosshair over a target in this game, either your control scheme needs to be adjusted, you're inexperienced, or you have a legitimate medical condition. At the end of the day its just two lines intersecting at the right time, and you willpowering your hand(s) to get that crosshair where it needs to be to hit a target. Sometimes when i play my dual gauss anything i use both hands to aim. makes me feel like dirty harry.

Another interesting thing to see would be how the best team of 25s did against the best team of say 45s. Since the player base tends to be older their should even be more players in the 45 range. But would their experience beat the better reflexes of the 25s?

Depends on the mech and weapons and playstyle you use i would say.
If you play a 150kph light you need other reflexes and skills then playing a 50 kph assault.
Thats what a lot of people that come from other fps miss.
Maybe the older playerbase is why we see more big and slow mechs then lights?
