Had been reading about the fall off in reflexes etc and the real limits we see in fast pro gaming that comes with age. Does MWO have the same limits for its competitive play? Or is it higher because it is a little bit slower?

Does the stats below reflect the top teams and players in MWO?

My personal guess is that MWO players lean towards being a bit older. Battletech/Mechwarrior is from the late 80s/90s/00s. Most younger kids would rather play Titanfall, COD, League of Legends and other more 'twitchy' style of games. I showed an MWO video to my 15 year old cousin....he laughed and said "lame", then walked away.

On average yes but what about the top 10 or so teams and top players. Seems like their ages would have to average younger than the average of the population.

Well, I might be one of the "most younger kids" as I don't remember much of that one year that I've lived in the 90s. But I do know I really like MW:O. My friends and classmates do indeed play the twitchy games like COD or League of Legends, but I've found out that I simply suck at them for I do not have the twitchy reflexes needed to be even close to average in those kind of games. In MWO however, I can take time to target, and fire my own weapons before dieing, at least, that's when there isn't a big Dire Wolf around the corner. I will not in any way say that I'm particularly good at MWO, I think I'm below average here aswell, but this is one game I can actually enjoy playing.

I would have to say that no,MWO doesn't have the same age limit as the twitchy games.Heck,I had a unit mate once that was 65 years old and he did just fine.MWO isn't just a little bit slower than the twitchy games. It's a LOT slower than the twitchy games.Generally speaking, hitting a distant mech on screen is considerably easier than shooting things in fast paced twitchy human shooters.

Will younger players usually have the advantage of better reflexes and faster reaction times?Yea,of course, that's just a fact of life. But,MWO isn't so reliant on "LOL NOSCOPE 360" skills that you can't compete if you are a little older.

The top players are almost all in the 25-35 age bracket.

You'd think they were in the 12-15 age bracket from the way they act in game, and spam chat with stupid crap lol
not all of them of course, but a considerable portion.

doubtful, since it's not twitch in the traditional full speed sense.

Still and all, I am sure that even in our generally slower environ, post 30, one will great reflex and visual acuity dropoffs, though it seems everyone I know under 30 these days has crappy eyesight anyhow.

I know my 38 year old hands are not near as fast as they once were, but then, they also have both been shattered, and my right wrist rebuilt, so I am thinking mileage has more to do with any twitch dropoff than age, in my case.

But considering just typing leaves a dull, burning pain in both hands, yeah, gaming definitely pushes the limits for this guy.

My only problem is my eyes, which eventually needed corneal transplants.

Maybe for some,But in most cases it's probably more of a diarrhea of the mouth situation. But,that's what you get when you combine internet anonymity+audience.
'Course,i suppose that could just be my opinion of things coming out.I think trash talking in real sports is stupid and childish as well.
Usually just makes me sigh and facepalm.

The day my hands give in is the day I commit sudoku. I need them to put warhammer miniatures together.

fortunately, still got 20/14 in the left eye, right eye is 20/30, due to some trauma (car, meet head), with ridiculous peripheral FoV. But the hands, they worry me, as both have had arthritic symptoms since I was about 19. Football, accidents, fighting, all took their toll.

Now as an artist, diver and photographer, I really regret some of my adolescent choices of entertainment. It's already largely borked archery and bowhunting for me. Pretty sure big bore pistol shooting will be the next off the play list.

Haven't painted a miniature in a couple of years, but do worry if I will be able to hand detail normal scale elemental suits anymore.

thats the word on fixing my spine damage (yes, a different accident and some bad genes). Since my brother has been in a wheelchair all his life, and such, I see no reason to risk it til the chair is the only other option, anyhow.

I switched to an airbrush, dipping, and washes before they were cool.

That's what they said about my eyes, basically.

"We can operate, but there's a pretty big chance you'll go blind."
"What if you leave them alone, then?"
"Oh, then you'll go blind anyway, and your corneas will eventually pop. After that, death from infections."

I love doctors.

I'm still too old school, which is the new cool, anyhow. Everything old is new again and some such. Just prefer the tactile feel of brushes, rasps, graphites, charcoals, whatever media to airbrushing, or digital art.

I blame my fetish for space marines and tau battlesuits. So easy, such good results. I'm more of the craftsman type, who cuts up terminators with laser sharpened utility knives, and blows ten hours converting every single character.

Top players, also known as people with more spare time. There are some pubbies (like me!) who would roflstomp these triple daishiatlas group players in competitive play, but haven't the time to greet them.

More importantly, what're you driving at, OP? What're you trying to say by age limits? I'm not sure I follow. Are you suggesting that twelve year olds, and people in their thirties and over don't play battletech games at a competitive level?
