I like the 2D2. Not just because, in name, it makes me think of Star Wars (R2D2, but if you didn't know that, WTF ya doin' HERE?!), but because it can be a SplatCat in a medium team slot:

Run a similar build but make room for some energy fun as well to go with the 3SRM6+SRM4.
It's fun.
It's fun.

I did, I had a few Med. Lasers on it, but figured they were too hot and did too little damage compared to the SRMs to be worth the heat. But I'll be upgrading to Dual Sinks now that I've decided to keep the mech, which should open that option right up!
Keep in mind a lot of the builds I post are cheap builds for the more casual player with fewer C-bills or the grinder who's just grinding out matches for money or XP. Where I can save money on a build, I try to, and note upgrade ideas (check out my two Raven-3L videos for an example of a viewer's upgrade idea in action). Both of your suggestions will be implemented, and I'll get an updated re-visit video as soon as I can find the time.

Started running something similar. LOTS of success. The SHawk can take enough damage, especially with torso twisting, that I can easily brawl with IS heavies, Clan mediums, and occasionally assaults if I catch them from the blindside.
