WHEN:
Friday, July 11th - 2130 Hours, EST (0130 Hours, GMT)

WHERE:
Windbourne Highlanders Teamspeak
TeamSpeak Address: 50.43.64.2
Password: mechwarrior

More TS Info: http://www.windbourn...ng-locusts-info

WHAT:
All Locusts. No Armor. 1 PPC. Absolute Mayhem.

Don't think of this as Mechwarrior Online. Think of this as Quake with Battlemechs. Take that Locust that's been sitting in a dusty corner in your Mechbay. Get all of its armor off (because really, you're not losing a lot there anyway). Rip all of the modules out. And duct-tape that ER-PPC to its wing.

That's it. And then, we fight.

There will be two valid builds for this event, each with their own pros and cons.

PPC Builds

LCT-1E/3M - JUNEBUG Build
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...05e0cea9b38c780

Standard 160 Engine. Double heat-sinks. Slower, but can lose that entire left side and still be operational. Good for those that expect to take a couple shots to the side or are used to torso-twisting to keep their vitals safe. (NOTE: Build may be "mirrored" to favor either the left or right side)

LCT-1E/3M - FIREFLY Build
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...6b233b1eee5c532

XL 190 Engine. Double heat-sinks. Fast. Real fast. But watch out. One blast to that side torso... (NOTE: Build may be "mirrored" to favor either the left or right side)

Energy Builds

LCT-1V - QUEEN BEE Build
http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=106&l=652f6b9c9bca101655133a8ec77a5eacc417f4de

The masses have spoken. Phoenix owners, dig out that old Locust 1V that refuses to be sold and slap a Large Pulse Laser on there! An XL Engine. Three heat sinks. And all the wub-wub the Locust chassis can handle.

Ballistic Builds
Does this event need ballistics? If so, what? LBX? AC5? Let's hear your thoughts.

Rules at a Glance
  • No Armor
  • No Modules
  • 1 ER PPC or Standard PPC, in either the left or right wing
  • 1 Large Pulse Laser in any other non-1E/3M chassis
  • Only 4 Heat Sinks in the Junebug build
  • Only 3 Heat Sinks in the Firefly build
So grab a mech. Get in that MechBay. Hop on TeamSpeak. And let the fraggin' begin.

This event will be recorded and posted to YouTube, and possibly Twitch, so keep an eye out for the mayhem!

Always worth it to drop into a match with a Locust PPC build and proclaiming to the world how "Meta" it is. =D

Post the location/TS server, this sounds like a blast! I'll keep an eye out and time and life permitting I will try and participate!

Never have liked lights - Locusts in particular - maybe there is hope for the odd little pest...

Awwwww I wanna do an unarmed demolition derby....

My clan can host this on our teamspeak, or in our channel at NGNG if anyone's interested. I'll also stream it on twitch.

We *have* to do the unarmed derby at some point ;) crashy crashy!

If it's available, please, post the info. I haven't been able to get in touch with my contacts yet. Better to get this squared away early.

Not saying it can't be done. Though honestly, I expect to see it a few times after arms and limbs and PPCs are blown free from crunchy Locusts.

Quick rules question: Since they confer no actual advantage, I assume it's OK to leave ES&FF on a mech that already has them? (Vs. upgrading the STD160 to a STD180 which would confer an advantage)

Here's the information! Teamspeak, etc. - Rhaythe, hit me up (I'm usually on our teamspeak, or message me) for any other information. I've got several VM music bots available, etc. for the event. I can stream 1080p 60fps, for the sake of documenting the event. Maybe we could start doing it monthly?

http://www.windbourn...ng-locusts-info

We could just make a monthly "bug run", with all the insect-named mechs going all ben-hur on each other.

Hey Rhaythe - we need a build for ballistic locusts, since a lot of users sold all the locusts but the phoenix one...

Maybe this?

I really like the idea, but we're talking a HUGE difference in speeds here. Let's throw around some build ideas and see if we can make anything stick. I'd like to keep these builds as close together as possible, and right now, the PPC builds would drastically outrun the LBX builds.

Yup, that's fine. Leave ES and FF on your mech (especially since FF does nothing with no armor anyway)

We could cram a large pulse into the nose of the ballistic locust :P

My thought for a ballistic is this mech:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...c82a27986af6ff5

The cooldown rate puts the DPS about on par with a PPC. Range isn't a whole heck of a lot different. And it keeps the XL 190 engine. Standard 190 isn't possible, though, so that'd be part of the trade-off by taking this mech, in addition to only doing 5 points of damage per hit, optimally.

Thoughts?

Love this idea.

But this chart might help you:

Notice how there's no point in having an XL120 over a 125. :P

I also think that there's a simple way to run the rules.
Rule 1: 0 armour allowed.
Rule 2: Max 1 weapon allowed.
This retains the jousting feel, but makes life a little easier in regards to regulating builds.
Everyone is on an even footing: no armour, 1 gun. The rest is up to you.
Do you go 1 ERPPC?, or 1 LBX10? or 1SRM6?
Or even 1 Small Laser if that's what floats your boat.
(Actually the option to take a backup Small Laser would be hilarious, if pointless and/or not entirely with the theme.)

You could then give 'suggested' builds or 'popular' builds for it, rather than 'allowed builds' and the workload is a LOT less.

I dunno - I almost feel like we're opening it up too much - we could make it all LPL's - that way every single locust can run it? too bad you can't fit a ppc into the CT.... Every mech on the field being identical (armorless, same speed) makes it funnier... If it's 2 builds only, we could say A or B only, so the xl190 PPC one, or the AC5 one, those are the only two options, something like that?

OR - PPC mech with zero armor, or unarmed locusts with full armor :P that way they can be guided missiles!
