yes, until such time Terra is taken then "The senior Khan of the ilClan would then become ilKhan in perpetuity, and all future ilKhans would be chosen from the ilClan."

as per the remembrance:

'For the day will come and our kin will stand
On Terra's firm soil, ready to rebuild
The Star League with their hearts and hands.
But who shall lead? Upon whose shoulders
Will the burden lie? The answer is the test;
The test is the journey. Whichever Clan
Carves its way through the barbarians
To reach that fabled cradle of us all
Shall be the vehicle of the League's rebirth. Upon
The Star League throne shall sit that Clan's
Wisest Khan. So should it be -- So shall it be.
-- The Remembrance, Passage 72, Verse 22, Lines 14-24[2]'

Agreed. Until such time a Clansman sets foot upon the soil of Terra, the ilKhan is the War Chef of the Clans, after a Clansman sets foot upon the soil of Terra, that Clan becomes the ilClan, the Khan of that Clan becomes the ilKhan. Even if there is currently a ilKhan already established, he would loose the status, unless he was already of the Clan that set foot upon Terra first.

The Clans are not separate entities, at least this is not the over all philosophy. The Clans are a whole, which each 'Clan' (Ghost Bear, Wolf, Coyote, Smoke Jaguar, Jade Falcon) being a military touman of The Clans. one of the reasons the lower castes of The Clans do not rebel, is due to the fact they are The Clans, be their Warrior Caste Ghost Bear, Wolf, Jade Falcon, etc.

So when a Clan lands on Terra, the goal of the children of Kerensky is complete. They have reached Terra, it is now time for The Clans to absorb their Toumans in to the new Star League Defense Force. Each Touman would effectively be a Corps of the new SLDF

Aff, however Tyra Miraborg doesn't run into the clans until 7 march. Nonetheless, I doubt anyone but the highest officials on the IS will know who these invaders are for many months. When Shin Yodama kills the elemental it's 30 march, and he has no idea who he's fighting. Victor doesn't run into the Jade Falcons until 13 April, and still refers to them as raiders. Focht's report to Myndo Waterly is on 15 April. Since Sharilar Mori is there, we know for certain that the Combine will know for sure on that date. Bottom line, I doubt the common person in the IS will have any idea something is going on until late spring at earliest (excetping of course the people on the planets being hit).

Thu. March 21, 3050: Coordinator Kurita, in a rare event, personally visits the Genyosha Command HQ; honors to Tai-sa Narimasa Asano.

Why is the Coordinator Takashi Kurita visiting the HQ of a unit with "questionable" loyalties?

Quote

14th Legion of Vega
In March 3050 the Legion attempted to defend Turtle Bay from Clan Smoke Jaguar.

Was he being debriefed that the planet that his grandson's unit was garrising is under attack?

Takashi was...a complicated man to say the least. He was very much an old school Draconis hardliner, which made acceptance of his sons military doctrine extremely difficult. However by the end of Blood Legacy we start to see behind the madness

"That's true, Coordinator, but we would have been fighting from another base of operation." Theodore frowned heavily. "Can you not bring yourself to end your conflict with the mercenaries? You owe them Luthien and you owe them your respect. Is it not time to admit you were wrong and come to peace with Wolf and Kell?"

"They have my gratitude and respect, and they know that. If I am to maintain their respect, however, 1 cannot say I was wrong, because I was not." Takashi's eyes sharpened. "Both Morgan Kell and Jaime Wolf believe it is unjust to expect noble warriors to commit suicide because they have not fulfilled their duty and their honor. They believe I could have prevented brave warriors they once knew from choosing such an end. This is the source of their enmity toward me, though other incidents have exacerbated it. Certainly their employer, Hanse Davion, has not tried to make them see the situation in any other light."

Theodore jammed his fists on his hips. "It was Hanse Davion who ordered their units here. Because he has agreed to send no Federated Commonwealth units into the Combine, he lent us his mercenaries instead. He has been able to change his thinking in the last twenty years. Why have you remained so ... so ..."

"Obstinate?" No flicker of amusement passed over Takashi's face. "I have remained resolute because I am correct. I no more doomed Yorinaga Kurita or Minobu Tetsuhara than I have any other man or woman who has committed seppuku. That act is one of personal atonement and redemption of honor. It is an individual choice that I respect. For me to do less, either then or now, would tarnish the honor of those who have the courage to cleanse themselves in such manner.
"However, my son, I will take issue with your assertion that I am not capable of change." Takashi looked beyond Hohiro at the remains of the battlefield. "Colonel Wolf was correct when he said that, given the old ways, the Clans would have destroyed us. You were correct in setting Shin Yodama as a brake on my anger and my need for glory. The defense of Luthien is not a victory for the mercenaries, it is a victory for your foresight and your generation."

Takashi's words, drained of the strident tones he used when speaking of the mercenaries, clearly shocked Theodore. "What are you saying father?"

"I am saying that I see the wisdom of your vision for the Combine. I regret having opposed you because it made the changes you made more difficult to accomplish. Yet I rejoice in the strength you have discovered in facing my opposition. You will have to persevere now without my objections, though I hope you will welcome my counsel from time to time."
The Coordinator of the Draconis Combine draped his right arm over his son's shoulders. "This House, though divided against itself, has defeated the Clans twice. Imagine their distress when they learn we now devote all our energies to fighting them together."

This passage would lend support to the theory that, while he would not openly admit to his sons military brilliance and the new policies employed by the DCMS, he would be beyond ignorant to ignore its effectiveness. This might be why he was visiting the HQ of this unit-while he did it begrudgingly even he could not deny the facts that this unit was one of the best in the Inner Sphere and deserved a little of his respect.

Ask The Devs 35 - Answers!

Team Leader: Has the development team put serious consideration on how to "balance" clan tech, without outright nerfing it? Or are they not at that bridge to cross it? Or, no questions on the clans yet either?
A: Yes. But we’re not ready to discuss clans until Fall.

So if there not "discussing" clans till the fall, that pretty much means we won't see clans till what? November? December? Jan of next year?

This Month in clan Ghost bear History Constance (DC held) falls to Clan Ghost bear. With the 68th Striker cluster (delta galaxy) defeating "The Honor Guard" (DCMC). Also this month for clan ghost bear is also when they begin to "hate" mercenaries offering no zellbrigen to mercs. And only see mercenarie units as unworthy of honorable combat treatment.

This month in clan Smoke Jaguar History Almunge (DC) , Virenlofta , Stapelfeld , fall to clan smoke Jaguar.

Clan Wolf took Balsta, Saint John, Svelvik. The FFR by this time is begging FC, and DC for help. (or at least asking) The FFR is in a political debate, The leader says one thing, the General another.

Clan Jade Falcon took Steelton

This is what I wish the ISN would start reporting about. These reports are all over the inner sphere.

(no clans until fall)

This...just broke my heart. I am finally ready to declare that the timeline should be pushed back a year. Fall, at its earliest, is September 22nd!!! Their fourth wave ends on October 31st and ceases for a year, at which point the Clans pull back all their front line units and disappear for a year while garrison units hold their current conquests. I am now very sad.

We are going to miss the most of the fun!! Rasalhague, Wolcott, Twycross...

Actually only the planets attacked knew that they were under attack. Comstar prevented any data being leaked out of the warzone. The leaders of the attacked realms will figure it out in quite some time though.

Hanse and Justice Allard get clever and figure out that Comstar is forging data and news reports, and use the patterns to calculate what worlds are under siege. They also discover that Theodore Kurita intentionally let data slip to alert the FedCom that he is under attack as well. By the end of this month its a well known fact among house leaders and high command the extent of the invasion. I don't expect much but rumors and unusual IS troop movements for the rest of the month

I guess thats why I said "The leaders of the attacked realms will figure it out in quite some time though." ;)

Sadly neither the novels nor the source books say when the leaders of said realms inform the public about the Clans.

Ah I misinterpreted the "quite some time" as "we still got awhile" lol.

And yes, while the invasion is well documented from the Clan perspective, the Inner Sphere lacks much of the data from 3050. My guess is the general populace started catching wind of something wrong as Great Houses started shifting massive amounts of troops to the frontlines. The dropship activity of these forces leaving would not go unnoticed. The FRR probably becomes aware in two months time as their nation was shredded. I may go reread some of the source material to see what I can discern/infer.
