If you push "play now" while in the achievements screen, you will not get a cancel button and the matchmaker will attempt to connect indefinitely whilst not putting you in a match.
This may also happen if the pilot skills screen is open, but I have not attempted to reproduce it. I can say with certainty the achievements screen causes the matchmaker to hang. The application must be restarted to matchmake.

I can say with certainty that it hangs without a cancel screen if you try to launch into a match while in the cockpit section of the mechbay too
I have reported it during the last few test servers but it is still here.
