Remember if a Google DNS change results in a 'fix' to your problem then your ISP is to blame not us.

ISP's want to squeeze as much money out of plebeians; one way they do this is by ignoring DNS caching rules and holding onto data to serve to your computer as long as possible to save pennies here and there. They break your experience, not us.

So when we ask you to switch your DNS to fix a problem it doesn't reside on either of our ends; look to your ISP as the culprit.

This is obviously a conspiracy against PGI from ISP's worldwide......

I can only assume they're hard at work fixing it as it's all gone strangely quiet:

Lets hope so

The DNS work around has worked for me, though this issue should be resolved with out the need for the end user to change DNS settings, Thanks though I can now go back to shooting stompy mechs.

Agreed, I don't have issues with logging in or patching any other online game with servers in North America, so lets hope the silence is a positive

I play another game called everyquest one by sony and it turned out that sony has not payed their domain name for the last 2 months, so yesterday the name was changed by domain name servers. Sony has corrected the problem but they say that DNS propagation takes as long as it takes about 48 hours. Could this have anything to do with the problem? The funny thing I did not have any problems logging into eq but I am still not able to log into MW.

Nobody has made a comment on this, the problem happened around the same time and the fix some people were using is the same DNS flush that MW told us to do. What happened it EQ could it not have caused the same issue in other games as well?

MechWarrior Online There are no DNS issues with our servers. Some Internet Service Providers take time to update their domain name routing. You can set your computer to use one of the third-party DNS providers, such as Google's Public DNS in order to fix this issue. You may need to contact your ISP and tell them that you need to clear your DNS cache. Otherwise please feel free to contact Support and our Game Masters will do their best to help. You can learn more from our developer posts over several pages in this thread on the forums: http://mwomercs.com/.../165028-servers-are-undergoing.../

Guess the silence means they are doing nothing and blaming the worlds ISP's for the issue....

EDIT: Reading between the lines. PGI are blaming DNS updates for the problem, so, taking that to its logical conclusion, a DNS update is only required when a change has been made. Therefore, someone on PGI's staff HAS made a change, and royally screwed it up and to offset that they are blaming the ISP's for the difficulties. This sounds very, very much like PGI reasoning...

Well The google DNS change (as I stated previously) worked for me, but when changing back today the problem is still present for UK Virgin Media, and thats almost 24hours from the patch being made available. I never even get to the Patcher I just get the intial MWO splash and the Unavailable "The servers are undergoing maintenance, please try again later,"

Also as a UK user, I found this article interesting for those who may also be a non US user. http://apcmag.com/wh...-a-bad-idea.htm

Google DNS works. Still dubious about the error though.

So are people that don't wish to use your work around going to be ignored, now, which seams to be the PGI way of old

Exactly ...

and note how its YOU should contact your ISP and request this that or the other and not we're working hard on this, and trying to find out why our servers are not talking to the ones run by your ISP properly

Sounding very much like out dated protocols are in conflict with more modern ones and so go switch to using an outdated open one so we don't have to take the blame, or do any work.

Just thought i'd have a look at this switch to Google DNS and it has a stark warning on the page that PGI are asking their playerbase both experienced in such things and more importantly inexperienced in such things:

Seriously PGI your asking me to compromise my ISP for a half baked fix!

Note: We recommend that only users who are proficient with configuring operating system settings make these changes.

We're still investigating heavily. Locking this thread to prevent flaming.

Remember:
  • No IP's were changed by us.
  • No Patcher Updates were done by us.
  • This issues is no longer isolated to specific ISP's.
  • Hard resets of ISP provided Modem/Router combo hardware has ~35% success rate
  • Google DNS/OpenDNS has a ~75% success rate (We are not happy that this solves the issue)
  • We have no reliable way to diagnose residential DNS resolving errors from a distance.
  • Our CDN provider uses DNS to issue IP's to servers as close as possible to our fans.
  • We will refund lost Active Premium time on a case-by-case basis with our support team.

This issue has been resolved, all that's required is for you to run the MWO Repair Tool. This tool exists in the game's Bin32 folder. If you installed the game using "Typical" settings, this should be here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Piranha Games\MechWarrior Online\Bin32

An alternate way to find this location is to right-click the shortcut to MWO, and click "Open File Location" (Windows Vista, 7, 8, or 8.1), or click "Properties" and then click the "Open File Location" button in the properties window.

Double click "MWORepairTool.exe". Review the options, change them as you see fit(two-way consolodation means that the tool will delete any files that it determines shouldn't be there, so if you like to keep backups in your game folder, you might wanna disable this option), and then start a scan. Once it's complete, go ahead and click fix. That should do it.
