I've been dropping with just one other person. We wait several minutes, even in lights and mediums (we haven't even tried heavy/assault), and end up facing a 12-man half the time.
I think being a 2-man makes us a liability to the team, because our win/loss is way, way down.
Normally longer waits would result in better matches, but in this case, both the waiting and the quality are bad.
I don't think it is fixable without some major matchmaking rule changes, and I don't know if there is a way to make good, quality matches for both solo players and groups of all sizes. It seems kind of like a zero-sum game. If you move players from one pool to the other, it makes things worse for the first pool.
So I'm wondering what other peoples' experiences have been and if they have any ideas for improving things.

My experience is that it started out with 30 second wait times with good teams, but is now back to the usual trash mix of whatever the matchmaker decides to throw at us after 4+ minutes of waiting.
I sometimes feel it's not really a matchmaker so much as it's a katamari of random robots.

If your search goes longer than 10 seconds cancel it and start it again. The longer the wait, the worse the match because of all PGI's "valves" releasing and just grabbing whoever.

Groups of different sizes have different wait times; 10 man drops quicker than a 9 man for example.
Being in a 2 man is not a detriment to the team. Without you they couldn't drop at all!

When you have a match where the Alpha lance consists of FOUR trial mechs you KNOW that no one is playing MW:0 at that moment - that was in our 8-man group - all 8 of us are MW:0 veterans ... MM ggclose PGI?

Does that actually work?

I'd imagine most MWO veterans are in the middle Elo bucket, along with all the brand-new players in trial mechs.
