truth be told thats not an effective locust build.

Not to toot my own horn, but I do it all the time. I made 730 damage with small pulse lasers in one match, and many others have been between 500 and 600 damage. I have no shortage of screenshots to back up that claim, either. With the small laser AMS build, I regularly do between 300 and 450 points.

Truth be told, the Locust is at its best up close where its superior maneuverability makes it hard to track. Ridge humping with medium lasers at a distance where you are easy to follow is how you get a gauss round to the face or a PPC to the ankles.

The other tricks to using the Locust are universal to all lights. Never fight fair. Get up into places where enemy weapon arcs can't reach, only engage when the enemy is distracted, lead them into friendly forces, stay behind them, etc. Fight smarter, not harder. Big damage numbers are an accident, usually from a game getting dragged out.

All that being said, you can shove 3 medium lasers on that same LCT-3M and still get an ECM in there with an AMS and a half ton of ammo for it (or you could just go with an extra heatsink instead).

Rather than ECM, make the locust detectable only at 400m rather than 800m. Consider adjusting the other lights as well.

all mechs should be able to carry ECM like, BAP, and CAP. I only use ECM light mechs because they become an instant bulls eye once their spotted, and missile spammed.

Why bother with ECM + AMS? The ECM does a fine job of blocking most missile before they are even fired. Only exception are BAP streak boats. But those will destroy a locust even with an AMS.

I was just going with a build that had stuff worth removing for ECM, that's all. I wouldn't actually put AMS on a 'Mech with ECM. Instead, I'd fit another laser and/or heatsinks. Four mediums or four small pulse would be decent to run with ECM.

I almost think it would be fine if all light mechs could equip a lower powered ECM that only cloaks themselves, but does not cover their friends standing around them. This means we should have the Guardian ECM and another, lower power self-only ECM that is equipable by more lights.

At leas then the other light mechs could see the light of day instead of being considered the "worse" mechs of their class.

Also, nerf the DDC Atlas to also only have a personal ECM instead of a Guardian ECM. It only got the ECM because it was a filler for the non functional Comand Console that it had instead.

The flea is fine as a ultra light mech aside from the current small drops chip off leg armor thing.

It is not meant to be an easy mode light mech, if you want an easy mode light mech go take a firestarter...

How does one person continue to be so wrong so often? The Locust has, with max armor and a 170XL (that's 150kph), 7.5 tons of which to spend on weapons and equipment. Bump that up to the 190XL and you've got 6.5 tons. With the former, that's ECM, an ER Lrg Laser, and a TAG. On the latter, well, you'll end up with TAG, Md Lasers, and whatever else.

The point is, the Locust CAN use ECM and it should be able to mount it. As I said, the 1M is the worst of the bunch and SHOULD get some level of help.

A 20T mech should be able to go insanely fast thus making it more fun to use and a bit more surviveable. Not to mention MASC speeds will have a use limit or risk damage. XLs WILL be useable with MASC otherwise it would be terrible. that idea is bad sorry.

In what way is the LCT-1M the worst of the bunch?

Not the worst but it has the least number of hard points.
LCT-1E 6 1
LCT-1M 4 1
LCT-1V 5 1
LCT-3M 5 2
LCT-3S 5 1

So, as you can see, all of the other Locust chassis come with 5-6 hard points and 1-2 AMS. The 1M, on the other hand, has 4 hard points and 1 AMS. It isn't worse, it is just more limited than the others.

But it can put out a greater amount of damage per second than the LCT-1V and do it with a higher alpha on tap. Two medium lasers and two SRM2 with two and a half tons of ammo on an XL190 is actually quite good. Alternatively,an XL180 with two SRM 4 and two small lasers also works, though I think that the necessary two tons of ammo is insufficient for dual SRM4. That's only 25 shots!

I just find that the LCT-1V is the most difficult to play since it is also the most dependent on the team stripping away enemy armor. The other variants can bore through a remaining 30 or so points without having to spend a whole lot of face-time on the target because they can alpha and then run. Not so with the 1V. That Medium Pulse is invaluable, but it only goes so far.
