So, the Clanners already have their Ballistic Assault (Direwolf), which is an Assault Mech with ballistic points in more than one component.

When wil lthe Inner Sphere get a Ballistic Assault Mech? We've been waiting since Closed Beta for an Assault Mech that can boat ballistics, and the Inner Sphere needs something that can compete with the Dire Wolf. The Banshee can only mount ballistics in one component, despite having 4 ballistic slots, so that doesn't count as a Ballistic Assault Mech.

When can the IS run an Assault Mech that can mount dual Gauss? It would be very much called-for at this point.

Mauler would be kewl, but it lacks variants.

Annihilator would be even slower than the Dire Whale, and would lack the benefits of Clan tech.

Devastator is short by 1 variant.

Thunder Hawk and Gunslinger aren't available yet.

...This leaves us with the King Crab, which I think might have issues with the critslot allocation of its AC/20s. I've heard from some sources that its original record sheet lacked lower arm actuators, which would let it use a pair of AC/20s just fine. However, more recent record sheets have lower arm and hand actuators, which require crit splitting...which is a construction rule that MWO lacks.

For existing mechs, we could get the Victor 9A, which would have its leg MGs moved up to the side torsos.

Hmm,

King Crab, Annihilator, Devastator. Choices, choices.

I think the King Crab is the most interesting choice, from a hitbox standpoint. Annihilators make the best raw ballistic boats, and Devastators make for some very interesting ballistic/energy potential (though they are thoroughly "meta" even stock, excepting only JJs).

I'm really hoping we get a Clan Response Pack with the Mongoose, Crab, Black Knight, and King Crab, sometime soonish.

I am tired of having to use a 65- or 70-ton Mech to carry loads of ballistics, whereas Clan Players can bring their Tanks up to 100 tons.

I want to play with lots of guns, but don't want to have to change teams in order to do it... I think we should all be given the same chances to have fun.

If they have implemented 3 different types of engines, the standard, the xl that puts 3 slots in each side torso and the clan xl that puts 2 slots in each side torso. Then I don't see why we can't have the king crab and it's stock crit splitting ac20 mechanic

The Devastator actually has two modern variants and one low tech variant.

The DVS-1D and DVS-2 are available right now, but the DVS-3 won't come until 3058.

Your best bet is probably a Mauler.

There's the 3039 version with low tech, and the 3050s version with upgrades... For a third, I imagine PGI would invent one like they did with the highlander. There are more variants that come out later, but yeah... Later.

It would be nice to see the Annihilator again, though they are the same speed as an Urbanmech. I can just imagine the horrifying Ultra AC5 builds made with one of those already.

Mauler needing three variants?

One: MX90-D Daboku (while technicaly a different design the Daboku was nothing more than a prototype for the Mauler field tested in the war of 3039) The Dabuko used only one recovered technology equiping CASE in both side torsos. The MX90-D is armed with 2 large lasers 2 LRM10s and 4 AC2s.Possible hardpoint config: 4 ballistic 2 energy 2 missile

Two: MAL-1R Mauler (the 3050 production model of the Daboku) The Mauler as a proper 3050 design used several items of recovered technology. The MAL-1R was equiped with 2 ER-Lrg Lasers,2 LRM15s and 4x AC2s,the Mauler also used CASE and ferro fibrious armor and an XL engine.Possible Hardpoint config: 4 balistic,4 missile,2 energy

Three: MAL 1pt-5 Mauler (Solaris VII duelist mech) This version downgrades all the Maulers lostech upgrades to Succession Wars era tech. the most noticable alteration was the replacing of the ER Lrg Lasers with a pair of standard old school medium lasers for each arm.Possible hardpoint config.: 4 energy,4 ballistic,2 missile.

Devastator 3 variants?

DVS-1 Devastator: lowtech version put out in small numbers during the period of time between the end of the 4th Succession war and 3050 Clan invasion. This version used a standard engine and mounted AC10s instead of Gauss rifles

DVS-2 Devastator: The Clan Invasion version with the 300xl engine and Gauss Rifles.

DVS-3 Devastator: a refit that increased the gauss ammo at the cost of some of the medium lasers.(ever notice how some mechs have a crap variant? well this would be the junker Devastator :) )

There are a couple of other options that technicaly were around but finding variants would involve some fishing.

Emperor and Pillager are two off the top of my head

The Mauler is confirmed as being a new 90 ton IS mech.

It has 2 ballistic hardpoints in each side torso.

i hope they make a config with at least one ballistic in the arms because side torso only is going to limit it some still useable but it will limit it.

Banshee BNC-3E, ..... why doesn't it count as Ballsitic Assault when the majority of its Hardpoints are Ballistic ?

because even though it has 4 ballistics, theyre extremely limited by all being in the same side torso. it basically means you can only use ac2s or ac5s.

the direwolf has 6. and theyre spread out across four locations. so the direwolf has way more options for ballistics.

All four of the basic Highlanders - the HGN-732, HGN-733, HGN-733C, and HGN-733P - are from BattleTech canon.

Even the Heavy Metal Hero 'Mech has some basis in BattleTech canon, as it represents PGI's take on the personal BattleMech of Rhonda Snord.

So, Ice Trey, do tell which variant of the Highlander you think PGI made up? :)
