Hello fellow Mech Warriors, especially you Free-birth scum like myself.

Now while I normally spend the bulk of my in game time taking nice screenshots, believe it or not, I also play the game. Currently I have 38 Mech bays, of which 8 are open, I have on tap 40mil C-Bills and I am looking at grabbing a new chassis. I have been considering the Banshe, but I am hesitant as the bulk of its firepower lie within the torsos. I happen to be a huge fan of arm mounted hard-points, but I can make due with torso centric chassis.

I have in my possession with all unlocks:

(Aka Mastered)

Light:
Locust 1V(P)
Commando 2D
Spider 5D

Medium:
Cicada 3M
Hunchback 4P/4SP
Shadowhawk 2H(P)/2D2

Heavy:
Catapult C1/K2
Thunderbolt 5S(P)/9SE
Cataphract 1X/Ilya Muro
Orion 1K/1V/1VA

Assault:
Awesome 8Q/9M
Battlemaster 1G(P)/1D/1S
Stalker 3F/5S
Highlander 733C
Atlas DDC

I have been looking at the Wolverines and the Griffins, however I am not sold on their hard-point layouts.

I am however open to suggestions on a new chassis to play.

(Note: I have owned all three Centurions, they are Mastered. I was not a fan)

Firestarter

I did try the Firestarter Trial, and I must say, it is quite an adept little mech. 'Tis on my strongly consider list.

Blackjack for sure.

The easiest to play is the BJ-1X. Grab DHS and both chassis upgrades, stuff a STD 295 in (a 280 is good, too), 6 Medium Lasers, 2 small lasers, max the armor, knock two points off the head, cram as many heatsinks in as possible, and you're off! Speedy McSpeederton will make for an excellent light killer and harasser with armor enough to survive bull charges. Shoot and scoot and you'll never have to worry about heat!

I will be shying from the Clan mechs, I was introduced to Mechwarrior/Battletech though MW2, however I had the most fun with MW2: Mercs, from there I delved into Table top and my second favorite timeline happens to be the clan invasion. However I always played as an IS merc unit for hire.

I have nothing against the Clan mechs, but I wish to have them in my sights, not wrapped around me.

Ok, sticking to IS only:

Light: Firestarter is outstanding. It's like a Commando, except actually dangerous (* Yes, I know you can do well in a Commando, but imagine that same Commando with more hardpoints, more tonnage, and jump jets)
Medium: Griffon, absolutely. This is, IMHO, the best of the lot. See, the Griffon seems sketchy in it's hardpoint layouts, but that totally ignores the real benefit of the Griffon. The Griffon has a spectacular open cockpit, with incredible visibility. It's extremely agile - far, far more so than the cumbersome Shadowhawk - and really is a true joy to pilot.
Heavy: Jagermech, I guess. *yawn*
Assault: Banshee 3E. *yawn*

Seriously, go Griffon. I know people ***** and moan about all the hard points on one side (on some variants) but that just means shield arm/torso. It's not like a Hunchback, it's very easy to protect a side torso in a Griffon.

But with fixed SRM's and decent LRM's, the Griffon is a really great hunter - be it at long or short range - and with it's 7JJ cap it's able to jump like nobodies business. Few mechs really came out ahead with the JJ changes, but the Griffon is definitely one of them.

Ultimately, and I know I'm harping on about this, the Griffon is just a really great mech to pilot. It just feels good.

The correct answer is TimbaaaaaahWolf!!!!!

But if your dead set on an IS mech, why not get your Cata 3D and master the chassis?

Firestarters are pretty great too.

The banshee is the best brawler of all the mechs. Why? It has HUGE arms as shields, and I mean HUGE. Just get yourself 3 AC/5's and 2 PPC's and you have a snap shot that has two arms to act as shields.

Jagermech, Blackjack, and Firestarter seem like the most arm-centric mechs you don't own. Other than the Victors.

Medium IS Mech: Griffin with SRMs or Kintaro (no JJs)

Heavy IS Mech: Jagermech

I would have recommended the Cute Fox, but if you don't want to, there's always the WubShee.

Multiple versions, from 8 MPLs and SHS, to 8 MPLs and an AC20 for massive damage. 7 MPLs and a LPL is my favourite.

But I suppose if you don't want fun, 3 AC5s works well combined with whichever energy you choose.

Banshee is a pretty good choice, it has 4 high mounted E hardpoints on the 3M for quad ERLL, quad ML. It can tank damage fairly well.

Sticking to IS only eh? Then I got no solution for you, you freeborn scum must be put in your proper place...6 feet under with your garbage mechs!

On a serious note I'd say black jack or jag are both decent mechs both can potentially dish serious punishment. I personally am done with those ugly boxy spheroids I like the sleeker design of the clan mechs and like their weapons after 2 years of being forced to play spheroids only the clans is a welcome new flavor on the battlefield.

The Jag.... isn't what it used to be.

The Griffins are awesome SRM boats. 3xSRM6A + ERPPC is a solid build and works well. Wolverines.... less so.

After the Shads though, my advice?

Go Atlas.

If you like missles and being able to redploy I suggest the Kintor-18! Both the srm build and lrm5 builds are fun!

Blackjack, Cicada 3M (Light replacement) or Firestarter for IS.
Or wait until Augsut for Nova Clan.

But this would depend on style of play.

Banshee. End of the day it's pretty much one of the best IS mechs around. Especially with the JJ nerf.

Com-2D. ecm. xl195. 250srm ammo. 2 srm 4. 1 mlas. 3 double. endo. standard armor. no arte. ecm is fun fun on a light.

If you were looking at the griffin/shadow, I'd look at the trebuchet 5J. I had good fun with a xl250, lrm 15, 5mlas, jj's, double, endo. probably wouldn't be as good post jj update but could get 600+ dmg. good for a med i guess.

Even though the Awesome isn't the greatest chassis, since you've already got 2 I would consider getting an AWS-8R and running it with 4 SRM-6 + Artemis and 2 LL. Very, very solid brawler.
