Hello, I am a new player who's been messing around with smurfys mechlab. I just want to ask weather this loadout for cicada is viable:
CDA-3M with Gauss Rifle
Thanks for helping!

Still a joke rig, but better.

No, not really viable, but potentially fun as a lark.

What would you recommend as a replacement for the Gauss Rifle?

Here we go.
Gauss Rifle with much higher armor. Never show your back directly even when running away.

For something similar, easier, and a bit cheaper. Same thing with standard engine and ER PPC. (Gauss ammo removed/fixed). Given how much lighter it is, it allows for a standard engine (which means you can lose side torsos and still survive).

Something a little more dynamic.

The Cicada is better off ignoring the Balisic, but if you must, something like this should be somewhat effective

CDA-3M
XL280, UAC5, 4MLs.

You could probably drop the Engine a bit and mount an ERPPC instead of the MLs.

2 tons of ammo will leave you dry too quickly, you'll want minimum of 3, comfortably 4 tons of gauss ammo.

Well, the "standard" build is an XL300 and a couple of PPCs. Same concept, but energy not ballistic, really.

I run a variant of that that is extremely pilot-tuned.

Some similar ideas (but using PPCs, ER PPCs instead of the Gauss Rifle.)

This one even includes the TAG, used to help make sure that invisible walls won't take up the shots.

Fixed. It didn't copy/paste after that change.

Unfortunately, the Gauss Rifle is just too heavy to mound on the Cicada unless you're aiming for a troll build. But the original Ultra AC/5 it comes with can be really effective with a few changes to improve available weight for ECM and Armor.

My own version looks like this CDA-3M.

The Ultra AC/5 has a good DPS output with very little heat. The medium lasers do very well with the basic 10 double heat sinks as part of the engine. Endo-Steel, Ferro Fibrous, and a slightly smaller engine than the default make more than enough room for ECM, armor, and more ammo. It performs really well for me.

Even the trial loadout isn't all 'that' bad.
This was a particularly lucky match. I'd like to draw particular emphasis to the switching of firing modes.

add endo and ferro, get more armor on it, add 1 more ton of ammo, drop TAG and put a ML. Go out and have fun in the silly build.

This is the joy of the game. Playing weird ass builds is great fun.

I would totally try this

I ran into a Hollcada once. It seemed to run out of ammo and was an easy kill after that :D

For a real challenge, run a Spider-5K with a gauss rifle... Joy!
