Make them useable only when you mount command console. Bam! Problem fixxxxed :)

The problem is that PGI wants us to use consumables like arty, they see it as a cbill sink and as a potential place people might micro transact for 15 mc.

This is why we are getting dedicated consumable module slots soon. They want to see more consumable use, not less.

Clans don't have command consoles.

Clans generally didn't use Arty or air when attacking. There ARE exceptions but for the most part, it was a breech of Clan honor to use Arty/Air. To much collateral damage to infrastructure.

Play against the House of Lords. They drop 24 every match.

And that's a problem why? If you have a chance you will drop against them, you should be prepared for that probability and have 24 of your own. Don't hate them, that are only the piano players.

Come on guys stop it.
I can't think of any major modern battle that has not begun with artillery and air strikes.
None.
If pgi introduced a pillow nerf cannon with .01 damage in the game.
Someone would claim it overpopwered and over-utilized.
Sheesh.

Arty is a "free" damage booster, sorta like grenades in Counterstrike. And low-risk to drop, at that. Why wouldn't you do so given the chance, especially since every time you hit is a chance for a one-shot kill via headshot?

Heck, if I'm in a 'Mech and I see a Dire Wolf, I'd arty strike it too. It's the slowest 'Mech on the field generally, meaning I'd get best use out of it- and it also means I hit it and don't stick around for it turning to hit ME.

In a game of combat, whatever tools you need to win is perfectly acceptable. I even used a UAV once. :)

Exactly...just wait until we have 48 strikes going off in a game.

Soon...

I think the 4-8 second timers in MechCommander worked very well for Artillery strikes. IIRC, it was 6 seconds for a flyby with aerospace bombers. The big difference though is that in a given battle, you'd have a grand total of perhaps 4-5 strikes. They were precious commodities.

While a slight timing increase is probably warranted, making them much more expensive would probably accomplish the trick. Right now they are really, really cheap.

I look forward to the game looking like large scale combat! :)

it would only be 46 cause I don't carry strikes.

Until it was used on them. Engaging multiple targets, be it by an errant LRM or by artillery, nullifies Zellbrigen.

Clan Wolf even has the Naga, an Omni specifically designed for the Arrow IV system.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
But, I digress. I use Arty strikes every single match in the solo pug queue. Every. Single. Match.

I do it because the Solo queue is all about the cbills. You make 10 times more money with assists, overall damage, components destroyed, cecm bonuses and spotting bonuses than you do with actual kills.

I can't speak for what goes on in the Group Queue, but I can tell you what the Solo queue is like.

Since the Solo queue is all about carrying new players now, you'd be stupid NOT to use them. New players can't shoot without stopping and zooming in, so them getting out of the way just isn't going to happen. AND they all cluster up so nicely, holding hands and all. ( Not to mention someone telling them that the red smoke gives them temporary "godmode"...heh.)

There's a reason they teach grunts to stay at least 5 meters apart when on foot patrol. I'm sure they cover that in the "new player tutorial" PGI put out there.

Also..and you really have to keep this in mind...new players don't know how to use Artillery OR they haven't unlocked the tree enough to make them useful. So, odds are, if you see arty strikes in the solo pug...it's coming from some poor sap that's trying to carry 6-8 new players.

Wouldn't they be good leggers if they perform it often? Just saying.

Drop 1 arty, 1 airstrike, get 400 or more damage. Pays for itself.
