It would not be useless, the enemy can still see exactly where you are and even if no LRMs are present that's quite useful. Additionally, NARC is the only system where you have no way of knowing that you're being actively spotted and all it requires is a simple hit & run from 1 enemy mech, which is not very difficult if they're playing a fast light.
Other ways to be spotted other than NARC where "you don't know" :
1. ECM light in your rear arc.
2. ECM light in your rear arc with TAG.
3. ECM light in your rear arc with BAP for extended range.
4. Any other mech doing this that isn't a light or has ECM.
Now lets go over the ways in which you can easily figure out you're NARC'd, this checklist should be done in order.
A. Got LRMs incoming, time to get out of line of sight.
B. Good thing I run Radar Deprivation(since its going to be ******* mandatory just like Seismic was because its OP as ****) so this last volley should either miss or most will hit the cover I've found.
C. Another volley? Well since I was smart enough to start evading the LRMs on volley 1, I've got cover and 60-100% of the LRMS aren't hitting me, guess I'll look around a bit.
D. No enemies to the side/behind me? well I guess I got NARC'd! Herp derp, I gotta sit behind this boulder for another 10 seconds, I can either wait it out and waste some LRMs or shutdown and deny their lock!
Its not that hard people.
