If I'm piloting anything below a heavy and don't spot the smoke *RIGHT* when it lands? Basically it ensures that I'm dead when I come up against the next enemy mech.
So, how about we get a "Incoming Artillery Warning" (like with LRMs) and/or maybe a general smoke screen (like a red mist) in the area that's going to incur damage. That way the mech pilots can spot the closest path to avoid damage.
Because currently? I've had too many matches which were going well, and suddenly I happen to see red smoke... BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM, and my healthy is gone 1 second after I see the smoke.
Do you agree? Is Artillery overused/OP? Or am I just complaining because I lack the, "L33T Skilz"

Clan 'Mechs will only be able to use Air Strikes (won't be able to use Arty at all), and IS 'Mechs will only be able to take 1 Strike each game (either Arty or Air), so the spam should be lessened.

Ah! Good! I hope the next patches come out soon then.

There should actually be a patch this coming Tuesday, August 5th.
It's not always two weeks between patches, that's just how it usually works out. They ALWAYS patch the first and third Tuesdays of a month, and USUALLY patch again if a month has a fifth Tuesday (as we did in July). When that happens, there are patches on consecutive weeks (the fifth Tuesday, and then again the next week on the first Tuesday)
If the Arty/Air changes don't come on the 8/5 patch, they'll probably come with the 8/19 patch.

Forgot about that, thanks for reminding me.

No problem.
And just for the sake of speculation, sometime within those next two patches we will probably also see...
- Whatever they decide to do about the 2PPC/2Gauss combo
- The Vindicator (45 ton IS 'Mech)
- And *hopefully* the unit-creation aspect of Community Warfare (Russ mentioned August as a likely time frame for this feature. There's also the possibility that they'll add the Inner Sphere star map at that time, as well)

Where is the source for this? Just curious would like to read about it, and didn't see anything recently.
Kind of bummed Clan Air Strike only, but I guess it's better than what I have experienced the last couple days.

So basically, we'll only see about 24 arty/air stikes a game. how... pleasant...

Still wonder if it makes better sense to require command console or tracking computer to load arty/air strikes. It makes it a play style and load out choice, and I believe many would defer on IS side anyhow. uh... I already see problems with that.
How about a global access and cool down to arty/airstrike?
One cool down per type for each side. Sure 12 mechs could equip strike. But... everyone on team shares a single cool down. One person on team uses it and just like at the start of a match you (everyone) have to wait again.
It makes sense from a "real world" application anyhow, squadrons need to reposition, artillery moves into new coordinates, etc...

They're already on a global cooldown for each team, but it's only 10 seconds.

If you never stop moving, they're far less of an issue. I see a lot of in-drop complaining coming from people that stop to shoot rather than learning to shoot on the move... if you're always moving, you're not going to be dead center on an arty. When I'm in-drop and I see a player that holds still a lot, I arty them (unless it's a trial mech with 3pv on - if it's *obviously* a new guy, I just shoot them a bit.) I mainly carry arty these days to buy myself time while retreating, sometimes the few seconds it buys is enough to get to lrm range, or get around a corner so I'm not facing down multiple mechs.

Hmm, yeah. The command console could use a buff, for what it does it's far to heavy. But arty/air strike permission, idk about that. Also, tracking computer = targeting computer? Why should they be linked together with air strikes? (not that MWO's targeting computers actually do what the really are supposed to do, but, meh...)
How about company/lance command instead?
